Bausch + Lomb Corporation announced that its next-generation SeeLyra™ femtosecond laser has received European CE Mark approval, clearing the platform for limited commercial availability in Europe in the coming months. Designed for laser-assisted preparation in premium cataract, LASIK flap and corneal therapeutic surgeries, SeeLyra combines precision-focused laser technology with live swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) visualization. Bausch + Lomb said the platform was developed to address the evolving requirements of modern operating rooms, particularly facilities where space and workflow efficiency are important considerations. The company expects availability to expand during 2027 while it continues pursuing regulatory approvals in other global markets, including the United States. The CE Mark represents an important regulatory and commercial milestone for Bausch + Lomb’s surgical eye-health portfolio and extends its more than 15 years of experience in the femtocataract laser market.
Live OCT Enhances Surgical Precision and Control
SeeLyra integrates live swept-source OCT to provide surgeons with real-time visualization of tissue depth throughout the procedure. The imaging capability is designed to support more controlled docking and precise positioning of laser cuts while providing visual feedback during laser application. Bausch + Lomb said the system retains important features from its previous-generation VICTUS™ femtosecond platform, including an intuitive user interface intended to streamline setup and support multiple surgical applications. The platform’s versatility allows it to be configured for procedures including premium cataract surgery, LASIK flap creation and corneal therapeutic treatments. By combining real-time imaging with controlled laser delivery, SeeLyra is designed to help reduce variability during preparation and provide surgeons with greater control over procedure execution. For Bausch + Lomb, the technology represents an evolution of its femtosecond laser capabilities as ophthalmic surgery increasingly emphasizes precision, reproducibility and efficient integration into clinical workflows.
Compact Platform Targets Space-Constrained ORs
The SeeLyra design places a strong emphasis on mobility, flexibility and operating-room efficiency. The platform has one of the company’s most compact femtosecond configurations and does not require a fixed patient bed, allowing it to be positioned and transported more easily within modern, space-constrained operating rooms. Compatibility with existing bed setups gives surgical teams additional flexibility while potentially reducing the need to move patients between beds during procedures. Bausch + Lomb also incorporated an articulating swing arm, enabling surgeons to position the system according to their preferred surgical orientation. These design elements are intended to support streamlined workflows without compromising the preparation capabilities required for complex ophthalmic procedures. The European clearance positions SeeLyra for the next stage of Bausch + Lomb’s global surgical technology expansion. The company plans to introduce the platform to selected European customers in the coming months, with broader availability expected in 2027. At the same time, Bausch + Lomb is pursuing regulatory approvals for SeeLyra in additional markets, including the United States, although indications and approval timelines may differ by country.
