Menlo Park, California, August 20, 2026
Subtle Medical, a provider of AI-powered medical imaging solutions, has appointed Lawrence N. Tanenbaum, MD, FACR, as Executive Medical Director and Chair of its Medical Advisory Board. The expanded leadership role builds on Dr. Tanenbaum’s longstanding relationship with the company and is intended to strengthen clinical strategy, product development, clinical evidence generation, and commercialization of AI-powered imaging technologies. A nationally recognized neuroradiologist and technology leader, Dr. Tanenbaum has worked at the intersection of radiology and advanced imaging for decades and has been an advisor to Subtle Medical since 2019. His expanded role comes as the company continues to broaden its AI imaging platform across MRI, PET, and CT and expand adoption among imaging providers.
Tanenbaum Brings Decades of Radiology Expertise
Dr. Tanenbaum has nearly 40 years of experience in clinical radiology, imaging technology, and innovation, with a career focused on translating emerging technologies into practical clinical applications. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Director of Advanced Imaging at RadNet, where he helped guide imaging technology strategy and the adoption of advanced technologies across a major outpatient imaging network in the United States. Earlier, he served as Associate Professor of Radiology and Director of MRI, CT, and Outpatient/Advanced Imaging Development at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He also spent more than two decades in private practice at JFK Medical Center/New Jersey Neuroscience Institute, where he served as Director of MRI, CT, and Neuroradiology. Throughout his career, Dr. Tanenbaum has advocated for technologies capable of improving imaging quality, workflow efficiency, and patient experience, providing extensive clinical and technology expertise to Subtle Medical as it advances its imaging portfolio.
AI Imaging Platform Expands Across MRI, PET and CT
Dr. Tanenbaum has been involved with Subtle Medical since 2019, contributing to reader studies, research, publications, educational initiatives, and real-world technology deployments. His work has included supporting the clinical evaluation and implementation of SubtleMR™, the company’s AI-powered MRI enhancement software. While at RadNet, he helped evaluate and deploy SubtleMR, contributing to the adoption of accelerated, high-quality MRI across the organization and hundreds of scanners. Subtle Medical is now expanding its technology platform beyond MRI to include PET and CT, with applications focused on improving image quality, workflow efficiency, and the patient experience. The company says its deep-learning technologies are designed to work across imaging equipment and vendors, enabling healthcare organizations to enhance existing imaging infrastructure rather than requiring complete replacement of installed systems. Subtle Medical currently reports 11 FDA-cleared products and more than 1,500 systems live worldwide, serving imaging networks, academic medical centers, and health systems.
Expanded Role to Guide Clinical Innovation
As Executive Medical Director, Dr. Tanenbaum will work with Subtle Medical’s clinical, product, research, and commercial teams to help guide clinical strategy and product development. His responsibilities will include expanding clinical evidence, strengthening relationships with the radiology community, and supporting the translation of emerging AI technologies from research into everyday clinical practice. As Chair of the Medical Advisory Board, he will work alongside Subtle Medical Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer Dr. Enhao Gong to engage key opinion leaders and support product strategy and evidence generation. Dr. Tanenbaum’s appointment reflects the company’s focus on developing AI technologies that address practical challenges faced by radiologists and patients rather than simply introducing new digital tools. The expanded leadership structure comes at a time when healthcare organizations are increasingly seeking AI-powered imaging solutions that can integrate into existing workflows and improve clinical efficiency. By combining radiology expertise, clinical validation, and advanced machine learning, Subtle Medical aims to accelerate the development and adoption of next-generation imaging technologies across multiple modalities. The appointment therefore represents a significant MedTech and medical imaging AI development, particularly as the industry continues to integrate artificial intelligence into routine diagnostic workflows.
