Superbrewed Food, Inc. has announced the commercial launch of Thryvia™, a shelf-stable, protein-derived postbiotic ingredient designed for use in products positioned around digestive and immune health. The company said Thryvia combines a growing scientific evidence base with formulation flexibility, low inclusion requirements, and commercial-scale supply, enabling its use across supplements, foods, beverages, and pet nutrition. Produced from heat-killed, non-viable Clostridium tyrobutyricum strain ASM19, Thryvia is designed to remain stable at room temperature and does not require the viability management associated with live probiotic ingredients.
Thryvia Expands Postbiotic Formulation Options
Thryvia is a non-viable postbiotic ingredient developed to provide brands with greater flexibility when formulating digestive and immune health products. Unlike live probiotics, whose functionality can depend on maintaining organism viability throughout manufacturing, distribution, and shelf life, Thryvia does not rely on live organisms. This characteristic allows the ingredient to be incorporated into a wide variety of product formats, including capsules, powders, gummies, nutrition bars, foods, beverages, and shelf-stable or UHT-processed products. Superbrewed Food said Thryvia can typically be incorporated at approximately 200 milligrams per serving, allowing product developers to formulate products without the viability-management requirements associated with conventional live probiotic systems. The company believes this combination of stability and formulation flexibility could help brands develop differentiated products for consumers seeking digestive comfort and immune-health support.
Scientific Program Supports Digestive and Immune Health
The launch is supported by a developing scientific program involving mechanistic, translational, and human research. According to Superbrewed Food, third-party preclinical research has demonstrated selective activation of the pattern-recognition receptors TLR2, TLR5, and NOD2, which are involved in biological pathways associated with host responses. Controlled animal research has also provided translational evidence related to intestinal and host-response activity. In addition, a completed four-week consumer perception study reported perceived improvements across multiple measures of digestive comfort, while further human studies remain ongoing. These findings form part of the company’s broader evidence-generation strategy for Thryvia. The ingredient has also received a “No Questions” letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under GRAS Notice GRN 1129, supporting its regulatory status for the intended food-related use described by the company. Superbrewed Food continues to provide formulation guidance, sample programs, and claims-substantiation support to brands evaluating Thryvia for potential product development.
Commercial Launch Targets Food and Animal Health
Superbrewed Food said Thryvia is now available for commercial applications, supported by commercial-scale manufacturing through a production partnership. The company is targeting several growing categories, including functional foods, dietary supplements, beverages, and animal nutrition. The ingredient’s shelf stability and non-viable format may allow manufacturers to integrate it into products where maintaining live microbial cultures could present technical challenges. The commercial launch is also supported by the appointment of Michael Bush as Co-Chairman of the Board. Bush is a microbiome industry veteran and previously served as President and CEO of Ganeden, where he was involved in building and commercializing a branded probiotic platform. His experience is expected to support Superbrewed Food’s efforts to expand Thryvia within the food, beverage, supplement, and animal-health markets. The launch highlights the continuing development of the postbiotic ingredient sector, where manufacturers are exploring non-viable microbial-derived ingredients that can offer formulation and stability advantages compared with live probiotic products. With its combination of room-temperature stability, flexible formulation, scientific research, and commercial availability, Thryvia represents Superbrewed Food’s effort to establish a differentiated platform for next-generation digestive and immune health formulations.
