LONDON, July 16, 2026
GSK plc has officially completed its acquisition of Nuvalent, Inc., marking a major strategic expansion of its oncology portfolio and strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving lung cancer therapeutics market. The transaction, valued at approximately $10.6 billion, brings three promising targeted oncology assets into GSK’s pipeline, including zidesamtinib (NVL-520), neladalkib (NVL-655), and NVL-330, all designed to treat genetically defined forms of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The acquisition reinforces GSK’s strategy of investing in clinically validated precision medicines capable of addressing significant unmet medical needs while complementing its growing oncology portfolio. Both zidesamtinib and neladalkib are currently under U.S. FDA review, have received Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug Designations, and are expected to launch in 2026, pending regulatory approval. The completed acquisition represents one of the largest oncology-focused transactions of the year and highlights increasing industry investment in precision cancer therapies targeting specific genetic mutations.
Acquisition Strengthens Precision Oncology Portfolio
Through the acquisition, GSK gains access to a pipeline of innovative small-molecule targeted therapies developed to overcome resistance mechanisms commonly seen in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Zidesamtinib (NVL-520) is being developed for patients with ROS1-positive NSCLC, while neladalkib (NVL-655) targets ALK-altered NSCLC, two molecular subtypes where treatment resistance remains a significant clinical challenge. Both investigational medicines have generated encouraging clinical data and are considered potential best-in-class targeted therapies, supporting ongoing regulatory review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The transaction also includes NVL-330, an investigational Phase 1 therapy targeting HER2-altered NSCLC, further expanding GSK’s presence across genetically defined lung cancer populations. Together, these assets enhance GSK’s ability to develop precision medicines designed to improve patient outcomes while addressing critical unmet needs in thoracic oncology.
Targeted Therapies Address High-Unmet Need in Lung Cancer
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for the majority of lung cancer diagnoses worldwide and is increasingly classified according to specific genetic alterations that drive tumor growth. Mutations involving ALK, ROS1, and HER2 frequently affect younger patients and are often associated with disease progression into the central nervous system, making durable and brain-penetrant targeted therapies particularly important. Existing treatments can become less effective over time due to acquired resistance while also producing adverse neurological and metabolic side effects that impact patient quality of life. Nuvalent’s precision-designed kinase inhibitors were developed using advanced structure-based drug design to overcome these limitations by improving selectivity, reducing toxicity, and extending treatment durability. The addition of these investigational therapies significantly strengthens GSK’s ambition to deliver next-generation targeted oncology medicines capable of improving clinical outcomes for patients with genetically defined lung cancers.
Strategic Acquisition Accelerates GSK’s Oncology Growth
The completion of the Nuvalent acquisition aligns closely with GSK’s long-term oncology strategy, which focuses on expanding beyond hematologic malignancies and women’s cancers into lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, and other solid tumors. Alongside recently advanced programs such as Ris-Rez, a B7-H3 antibody-drug conjugate currently in Phase 3 development, Mo-Rez, and velzatinib, the newly acquired pipeline positions GSK as a stronger competitor within precision oncology. Financially, the acquisition represents an equity value of approximately $10.6 billion, with GSK’s net investment totaling approximately $9.4 billion after accounting for acquired cash. The transaction reflects growing confidence in targeted therapies that combine molecular precision with improved safety profiles and reinforces GSK’s commitment to delivering innovative cancer medicines that address defined patient populations with high unmet medical needs. As regulatory decisions for zidesamtinib and neladalkib approach later this year, the acquisition places GSK in a strong position to drive future growth through differentiated oncology innovation.
