Galderma announced positive topline results from a randomized study evaluating Restylane Volyme, known as Restylane Contour in the U.S., for the correction of moderate-to-severe temple hollowing in Chinese patients. The study enrolled 162 adults across six sites in China and met its primary endpoint, demonstrating the effectiveness and safety of Restylane Volyme compared with a no-treatment control. At Month 6 after the last treatment, 94.4% of treated patients achieved at least a one-grade improvement in temple hollowing in both temples, compared with 2.0% in the control group. The findings also showed high patient and investigator satisfaction, supporting Galderma’s strategy to generate additional clinical evidence for its Restylane hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable portfolio and expand treatment options in China’s growing aesthetics market.
Restylane Volyme Demonstrates Durable Aesthetic Outcomes
Restylane Volyme demonstrated sustained treatment responses and high aesthetic satisfaction through 12 months of follow-up. Blinded-evaluator responder rates on the Galderma Temple Volume Deficit Scale remained high through Month 12, while 91.3% of patients showed improvement on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale for both temples through Month 12 according to treating investigators. Patient satisfaction remained consistently high, with more than 84% of participants satisfied with the natural look and feel of their temples through Month 12. More than 90% of participants said they would recommend the treatment to a friend, while more than 86% indicated they would undergo the treatment again. The results provide additional clinical evidence for the use of HA fillers in temple rejuvenation, an area where age-related volume loss can affect facial balance and contribute to a sunken appearance.
Galderma Highlights Safety and Personalized Treatment
The study also demonstrated a favorable safety and tolerability profile for Restylane Volyme, with no treatment-related serious adverse events and no reported granulomas. The product is a moderately soft and flexible HA gel manufactured using OBT™ technology, which is designed to distribute within tissue and support natural-looking results. Galderma highlights a dual-layer treatment technique using both needle and cannula to enable customized product placement according to individual aesthetic goals. The company also noted that temple volume loss can become more noticeable with aging and may be accelerated by medication-driven weight loss, increasing demand for individualized facial rejuvenation approaches. The Chinese study adds evidence to Galderma’s broader clinical research program around differentiated HA injectable treatments and treatment areas.
