CONNECTA Therapeutics announced the closing of a €3.1 million financing led by new investor Clave Capital through its Innvierte Science Tech Clave Innohealth fund, with participation from existing investors Inveready, CDTI Innvierte and Prous Institute for Biomedical Research. The financing provides additional capital to support the company’s clinical development strategy for CTH120, its investigational first-in-class neuroplasticity modulator for Fragile X syndrome (FXS). The proceeds will primarily support completion and acceleration of the ongoing Phase IIa clinical trial, with topline results expected in mid-2027. For CONNECTA, the financing represents an important funding milestone as the company advances its lead program from early clinical development toward demonstrating potential disease-modifying activity in a rare neurodevelopmental disorder with no approved disease-modifying treatment.
CTH120 Advances Through Phase IIa in Fragile X
The Phase IIa study is evaluating CTH120 in 30 randomized adult males with Fragile X syndrome, following encouraging preclinical research and Phase I safety findings. Initiated in June 2026, the trial is assessing the compound’s safety, tolerability and effectiveness, while also incorporating biomarker research designed to investigate biological changes associated with treatment. Clinical work is being conducted at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute Foundation, with biomarker studies supported by the Centre for Genomic Regulation. The study is being funded through support from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the European Union’s NextGeneration EU program. CONNECTA expects the Phase IIa data to provide an important assessment of whether modulation of neuroplasticity can translate into measurable therapeutic benefits for people living with FXS.
Financing Supports Broader Pediatric Development
Beyond the current adult study, CONNECTA is preparing for future pediatric development of CTH120 through the FRAXCURE project, reflecting the company’s intention to expand the program across the Fragile X patient population. Fragile X syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder associated with significant cognitive and behavioral impairment and remains an area of substantial unmet medical need. CONNECTA’s development strategy is based on the hypothesis that impaired neuroplasticity contributes to disease pathology and that pharmacological modulation of this process could potentially address underlying biological mechanisms rather than only individual symptoms. The new financing gives the company additional resources to progress the ongoing clinical program while preparing subsequent development activities. Phase I safety data and prior neural biomarker research provide the foundation for the current Phase IIa program, while future pediatric studies could broaden the potential clinical application of CTH120 if efficacy and safety are demonstrated.
