Ashland, Missouri, U.S., October 2, 2026
ABK Biomedical Inc. has marked a major manufacturing milestone with the construction kickoff of its future commercial manufacturing facility at Cartwright Business Park in Ashland, Missouri. The new facility is planned to support the commercial-scale production of Eye90 microspheres®, a clinical-stage yttrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization medical device being developed for the treatment of liver cancer. The construction milestone brings together ABK Biomedical, COR Development, Coil Construction, the University of Missouri, and the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR), strengthening the company’s manufacturing infrastructure as it advances Eye90 microspheres toward potential commercialization.
New Facility to Support Eye90 Commercial Manufacturing
The planned Ashland facility represents an important step in ABK Biomedical’s long-term strategy to establish U.S. commercial manufacturing capabilities for Eye90 microspheres. The facility is being designed as a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing site, with specialized infrastructure intended to support production at commercial scale. According to ABK Biomedical, the location was selected in part because of its proximity to the University of Missouri Research Reactor, which serves as the company’s primary irradiation partner for Eye90 microspheres. The project is expected to create high-tech jobs in the Mid-Missouri region while strengthening the company’s future manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities. Construction follows ABK Biomedical’s earlier decision to select Ashland as the long-term location for its commercial-scale manufacturing operations. The company expects construction to be completed in 2027, with facility commissioning planned for 2028. Once operational, the site is expected to become a cornerstone of ABK Biomedical’s global supply chain, supporting the potential future commercialization and distribution of Eye90 microspheres. The development also demonstrates the growing importance of specialized manufacturing infrastructure for innovative medical technologies moving from clinical development toward potential commercial use.
Eye90 Microspheres Target Liver Cancer Treatment
Eye90 microspheres are being developed as a Y-90 radioembolization device for patients with liver cancer. Radioembolization is a targeted treatment approach in which radioactive microspheres are delivered through the blood vessels supplying a tumor, enabling localized radiation exposure. ABK Biomedical is developing Eye90 as part of its portfolio of medical-device therapies intended to improve treatment outcomes for patients with benign and malignant hypervascular tumors. The company’s manufacturing strategy is closely connected to the specialized requirements of producing and handling this type of radioembolization technology. Establishing dedicated GMP manufacturing capacity can help support consistent production processes, quality controls, and supply planning as a medical device progresses through clinical development. The Ashland site is therefore positioned not simply as an expansion project, but as a critical component of ABK Biomedical’s broader strategy for scaling its technology and preparing for potential future market demand.
ABK Biomedical Builds U.S. MedTech Infrastructure
The construction kickoff also highlights collaboration between medical technology, academic research, advanced manufacturing, and regional development. ABK Biomedical has maintained a relationship with the University of Missouri and MURR for nearly a decade, and the new facility is expected to further strengthen that partnership. The company believes the project can contribute to the Mid-Missouri biotechnology and advanced-manufacturing ecosystem while supporting the development of specialized medical-device capabilities.
The company emphasized that Eye90 microspheres remain investigational and are not approved for use outside authorized clinical trials. Therefore, the new manufacturing facility represents preparation for potential future commercialization rather than evidence of regulatory approval. Nevertheless, the construction milestone marks meaningful progress in ABK Biomedical’s effort to establish the infrastructure required to manufacture its liver-cancer technology at commercial scale.
