Toronto, Canada — August 14, 2026
Quantum BioPharma Ltd. reported continued progress on its lead therapeutic program Lucid-MS, following U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of its Investigational New Drug (IND) application to proceed with a pivotal Phase 2 clinical trial in patients with progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). The regulatory milestone advances the company’s patented neuroprotective program into the next stage of clinical development and positions Lucid-MS for evaluation in an area with substantial unmet medical need. The planned study will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 trial designed to further evaluate the investigational treatment in patients with progressive MS. Quantum reported the FDA clearance after the end of its second quarter, making the development milestone a key focus of its latest operational update.
FDA Clearance Advances Lucid-MS Clinical Development
Quantum BioPharma is advancing Lucid-MS (Lucid-21-302) as a potential neuroprotective treatment for multiple sclerosis. The company describes Lucid-MS as a first-in-class patented new chemical entity designed to address myelin degradation, a central pathological process associated with MS. Preclinical studies reported by the company have indicated that Lucid-MS may have the potential to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, supporting continued development into human clinical testing. Following FDA approval of the IND application on August 10, 2026, Quantum can now proceed toward the planned Phase 2 study in patients with progressive MS. The upcoming trial is intended to provide clinical evidence on the candidate’s safety and therapeutic potential and represents a major transition for the program from development and regulatory preparation into a more advanced clinical evaluation.
Quantum Strengthens Liquidity and Reduces Cash Burn
Alongside the clinical milestone, Quantum BioPharma reported improved financial and liquidity metrics for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026. The company’s combined cash, cash equivalents and digital assets increased to approximately US$9.5 million, compared with US$4.1 million at the end of 2025. Cash and cash equivalents reached approximately US$3.65 million, while shareholders’ equity increased to approximately US$6.09 million. Working capital also improved to approximately US$1.66 million, compared with US$0.42 million at December 31, 2025. Quantum further reported a 53% year-over-year reduction in total operating expenses, which declined to US$2.29 million during the second quarter. General and administrative expenses decreased by 47% to US$1.76 million, while cash used in operating activities for the first six months of 2026 fell 44% year-over-year to US$3.46 million. Management stated that, assuming the current first-half cash burn rate continues, existing liquidity is expected to support planned operations through at least October 2027.
Lucid-MS Moves Toward Pivotal Phase 2 Trial
The FDA clearance gives Quantum BioPharma an opportunity to advance Lucid-MS toward a pivotal clinical assessment in progressive multiple sclerosis, where treatment options remain limited and disease progression can lead to significant neurological disability. The company’s strategy centers on the candidate’s proposed neuroprotective mechanism, rather than simply addressing symptoms or inflammatory activity. Quantum is now expected to focus on clinical execution, including preparation for the randomized Phase 2 study and continued development of the Lucid-MS program. The company said the regulatory milestone reflects years of scientific development and provides an important foundation for evaluating whether the candidate’s preclinical effects on myelin degradation can translate into meaningful clinical benefit. With strengthened liquidity, reduced operating expenses and regulatory clearance to begin the next stage of testing, Quantum BioPharma is moving Lucid-MS into an important clinical development phase that could determine the program’s future potential in progressive MS.
