Royal Philips has introduced the eV14-2v transvaginal transducer, a new single-transducer solution designed to support a broad range of gynecology and early obstetrics ultrasound examinations. The new device has received FDA 510(k) clearance and CE marking, strengthening Philips’ women’s health ultrasound portfolio. The lightweight transducer is designed to combine enhanced penetration, improved image resolution, and a wider field of view in one device, potentially reducing the need for clinicians to switch between transducers during examinations. Philips is showcasing the technology at the 36th International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) World Congress, highlighting its potential to support more efficient imaging workflows and improved patient experiences.
Philips Advances Single-Transducer Ultrasound Imaging
The eV14-2v has been developed specifically for gynecology and obstetrics imaging, addressing clinical situations where clinicians may need to balance imaging penetration and resolution across different examinations. Philips states that the new transducer provides a 41.7% increase in penetration, a 10% improvement in 2D resolution, and a 15.8% wider field of view compared with the company’s 3D9-3v transducer. Its design is also 22% lighter, supporting greater ergonomic comfort during examinations. By combining these capabilities in a single transducer, Philips aims to reduce transducer changes and help streamline ultrasound workflows across routine gynecological assessments, fertility examinations, pelvic imaging, and early pregnancy evaluations. The device incorporates PureWave crystal technology, a Philips ultrasound technology designed to support detailed imaging performance. According to the company, the eV14-2v provides enhanced visualization of anatomy relevant to conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids, as well as imaging applications associated with infertility and pelvic pain. The transducer also supports 2D and color imaging, with Philips highlighting its ability to support visualization of fetal anatomy and cardiac structures during early pregnancy. The product specifications include a 14–2 MHz frequency range, a 180-degree field of view, and support for 3D/4D imaging capabilities, providing flexibility across different endovaginal scanning applications.
New Device Supports Workflow and Remote Consultation
Beyond image quality, Philips is positioning the eV14-2v as a tool for improving clinical workflow and patient comfort. A single-transducer approach can reduce the need for equipment changes during an examination, potentially helping clinicians complete imaging procedures more efficiently. Philips also emphasizes the transducer’s lightweight ergonomic design, which is intended to support user comfort during repeated clinical examinations. The approach may be particularly relevant to women’s health services where ultrasound is used across a broad spectrum of routine and more complex clinical needs. The eV14-2v can also be used with Philips Collaboration Live, enabling real-time remote consultation during ultrasound examinations. Through the connected platform, clinicians can share live imaging, obtain guidance, and consult with other members of a care team without requiring the patient to travel to another location. Philips says this capability could help extend access to specialist expertise, particularly for communities where access to specialized women’s healthcare services may be limited. The launch reflects the continuing evolution of ultrasound technology for women’s health, with manufacturers increasingly focusing on combining imaging performance, ergonomic design, workflow efficiency, and connected-care capabilities. With FDA 510(k) clearance and CE marking, the eV14-2v represents a significant medical-device development for Philips’ obstetrics and gynecology portfolio.
