Curia Global, Inc., a global contract research, development and manufacturing organization, has announced the grand opening of its expanded Albuquerque campus, marking a major investment in sterile drug product manufacturing and domestic pharmaceutical production capacity. The $200 million expansion adds 70,000 square feet to the site’s existing 200,000-square-foot manufacturing footprint and introduces two new isolated filling lines supporting vials, syringes and cartridges. The expanded facility is designed to strengthen Curia’s ability to provide aseptic fill-finish, lyophilization, automated visual inspection and packaging services for critical injectable medicines and vaccines.
Curia Adds Advanced Sterile Fill-Finish Capacity
The Albuquerque expansion significantly increases Curia’s capabilities in sterile drug product manufacturing, an important component of pharmaceutical production where maintaining product sterility and quality is critical. The expanded campus includes a VarioSys® flexible filling line capable of supporting syringes, cartridges and vials, alongside a new high-speed vial filling line capable of handling 1,000-liter batch sizes and filling at speeds of up to 400 vials per minute. These technologies are complemented by automated visual inspection and packaging capabilities, helping support the controlled processing and final handling of sterile pharmaceutical products. Curia said the investment responds to growing demand for reliable domestic manufacturing capacity for injectable vaccines and medicines. The company highlighted the complexity of establishing domestic drug-product infrastructure, particularly for sterile manufacturing, where advanced equipment, controlled processes and specialized technical expertise are required. The expanded Albuquerque campus builds on a facility with approximately 40 years of experience in sterile drug product manufacturing, positioning the site to support both clinical and commercial manufacturing requirements.
Expansion Strengthens U.S. Injectable Medicine Supply
The project is also significant from a pharmaceutical supply-chain and manufacturing resilience perspective. Curia’s expansion was supported through a cooperative agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response. The collaboration is intended to strengthen domestic production capacity for injectable medicines, an area considered important for ensuring reliable access to critical medical products. The State of New Mexico also supported the project through assistance from its Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job creation fund. The expanded facility also incorporates Sterile University™, which Curia describes as a sterile manufacturing training program designed to develop specialized expertise in sterile production. Workforce training is particularly important as pharmaceutical manufacturers adopt increasingly sophisticated isolated filling systems, automated inspection technologies and advanced aseptic processing approaches. By combining expanded physical capacity with specialized training, Curia aims to strengthen the operational capabilities required to support complex injectable drug manufacturing.
