Bagsværd, Denmark, August 10, 2026
Novo Nordisk and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating drug discovery and development through artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies. The collaboration includes the creation of a new AI co-innovation hub in London, bringing together AWS engineers, AI specialists and applied scientists with Novo Nordisk research and development teams. The companies will use agentic AI, cloud computing and life sciences technologies to help shorten the path from identifying potential drug targets to the first human dose. Novo Nordisk has also selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner, establishing a technology foundation designed to support the discovery and development of future medicines across therapeutic areas.
AI Co-Innovation Hub Established in London
The new London co-innovation hub will serve as a collaborative environment where scientists and technology experts from Novo Nordisk and AWS can develop and apply AI solutions to drug discovery challenges. The initiative is designed to combine Novo Nordisk’s scientific and therapeutic expertise with AWS’s cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence capabilities and life sciences technologies. According to the companies, the partnership aims to increase research productivity and potentially reduce the time required to advance new medicines toward clinical development. Novo Nordisk said it has already achieved measurable benefits through its collaboration with AWS, including reducing the time required for clinical documentation and helping more than 25,000 employees improve productivity through technology-enabled workflows. The expanded partnership is intended to build on these results and apply AI more broadly across research and development activities.
AWS Technologies to Support Drug Discovery
Novo Nordisk plans to use AWS technologies including Amazon Bio Discovery and Amazon Bedrock to support several stages of the drug discovery process. These technologies are expected to help researchers identify potential drug targets, design new therapeutic candidates and connect complex datasets, including genomic, imaging and clinical data. Linking information across these areas could allow insights generated during early research to inform later clinical trial planning and development strategies. Novo Nordisk will also leverage Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to deploy AI agents aimed at improving operational efficiency across the organization. The use of AI agents could automate or streamline selected workflows while allowing research teams to focus more heavily on scientific analysis and decision-making. The companies said the partnership will provide secure and scalable technology infrastructure capable of processing complex datasets while supporting the development of responsible AI solutions for healthcare and pharmaceutical research.
Strategic Cloud Partnership Targets Faster Medicine Development
By naming AWS its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner, Novo Nordisk is establishing a broader relationship that extends beyond individual AI projects. The collaboration is intended to modernize the company’s technology infrastructure while creating a foundation for applying AI across drug discovery, clinical development and business operations. Novo Nordisk brings extensive expertise in developing medicines for serious chronic diseases, while AWS contributes large-scale cloud infrastructure, AI services and specialized technologies for life sciences. The companies believe the combination could help accelerate research, improve productivity and potentially shorten development timelines for future therapies. Novo Nordisk also works with other Amazon businesses, including Amazon Pharmacy, Amazon Ads and Amazon One Medical, in initiatives related to healthcare, medicine delivery and patient engagement. The strategic partnership with AWS therefore represents a significant expansion of Novo Nordisk’s AI and digital transformation strategy, with the London hub expected to play a central role in developing and scaling new AI-enabled approaches to pharmaceutical innovation.
