Salt Lake City, Utah, and Burlington, North Carolina, USA, October 20, 2026
Myriad Genetics and Labcorp have entered into a definitive agreement under which Myriad will sell its Prenatal Health testing business to Labcorp for $210 million in cash, plus the value of inventory at closing. Announced on October 20, 2026, the transaction includes a portfolio of reproductive health and prenatal screening tests designed to provide genetic information to patients and healthcare professionals. The deal is intended to expand access to prenatal testing through Labcorp’s established laboratory infrastructure while allowing Myriad to sharpen its strategic focus on precision medicine and the cancer care continuum. Both companies expect the transaction to support their long-term business priorities, with Labcorp seeking to strengthen its specialty diagnostics portfolio and Myriad aiming to improve operational focus and financial flexibility. The agreement remains subject to regulatory clearance and customary closing conditions, with completion expected by early 2027.
Prenatal Testing Portfolio Includes Four Key Products
The planned acquisition covers four established products: Prequel® Prenatal Screen, Foresight® Carrier Screen, SneakPeek® Early Gender Test, and FirstGene® 4-in-1 Prenatal Screen. These offerings address different needs in reproductive and prenatal health, ranging from screening for selected fetal chromosomal conditions to identifying inherited carrier status and providing early pregnancy-related information. Prequel is a non-invasive prenatal screening test that analyses cell-free DNA in a pregnant person’s blood to assess the risk of certain chromosomal conditions. Foresight evaluates whether prospective or expectant parents carry genetic variants associated with inherited disorders. SneakPeek is an early pregnancy test designed to determine fetal sex, while FirstGene combines several prenatal screening assessments in a single offering. Together, these products form a reproductive genetics portfolio serving patients and clinicians across different stages of family planning and pregnancy. Myriad reported that the portfolio had been used by more than 600,000 patients over the preceding 12 months, with thousands of healthcare providers using the tests.
Labcorp Expects Expanded Access and Diagnostic Growth
Labcorp expects the acquired business to generate approximately $160 million in revenue during its first year following completion. The company anticipates the transaction will be slightly accretive to adjusted earnings in year one and that the business will reach average diagnostics segment margins by the end of year two, once fully integrated. Labcorp plans to combine Myriad’s reproductive genetics capabilities with its nationwide laboratory network, patient service centres, data analytics and digital tools. This integration is expected to make prenatal testing more accessible to patients and healthcare providers while strengthening Labcorp’s women’s health and specialty diagnostics offerings. The companies have also indicated that they intend to maintain continuity of access to the existing tests during the transition. Certain employees associated with the business will be offered employment by Labcorp on terms comparable to their current arrangements, supporting operational continuity as the transaction moves toward completion.
Myriad Refocuses on Precision Medicine and Cancer Care
For Myriad Genetics, the sale follows a strategic review intended to prioritise its core precision medicine business and strengthen investment in areas connected to the cancer care continuum. The company expects the transaction to improve revenue growth and profitability while strengthening its balance sheet. Myriad has built its business around molecular diagnostic testing that can help inform healthcare decisions, including genetic risk assessment and personalised approaches to care. By divesting its prenatal testing operations, the company plans to concentrate resources on its remaining strategic priorities rather than managing a broader portfolio of diagnostic services. The transaction also illustrates continued consolidation in the diagnostics industry, where laboratory service providers are expanding specialised testing portfolios through acquisitions to increase scale, broaden access and improve operational efficiency. However, the expected financial and operational benefits will depend on successful integration and the completion of the required regulatory process. The companies said the deal is expected to close by early 2027, subject to applicable clearances and customary closing conditions.
