LUMA Vision has secured additional U.S. FDA clearance for its VERAFEYE™ procedural intelligence platform, expanding the capabilities of the cardiac technology as the company prepares for a planned commercial launch in early 2027. The clearance advances VERAFEYE’s integrated approach to cardiac imaging, visualization, catheter tracking and procedural guidance, bringing multiple functions together on a single platform for minimally invasive cardiac procedures. The company said the expanded capabilities represent another step toward its vision of a more connected and data-driven cardiac catheterization laboratory.
FDA Clearance Expands VERAFEYE Capabilities
The latest FDA clearance expands the clinical capabilities of VERAFEYE, LUMA Vision’s ultrasound-based cardiac visualization and navigation platform. The system is designed to provide physicians with continuous visualization of cardiac anatomy and medical devices during procedures, helping integrate imaging and navigation into a single workflow. VERAFEYE uses a 360-degree imaging catheter to capture ultrasound information and construct real-time two-dimensional and three-dimensional anatomical models of the heart. The platform can reconstruct the left and right atria while providing visualization of cardiac structures, valves and great vessels. The technology also incorporates electromagnetic catheter tracking, allowing physicians to maintain visibility of both the imaging catheter and ablation catheter during procedures. LUMA Vision says this approach is designed to reduce the need for manually repositioning the imaging catheter simply to maintain visualization of the treatment device. The latest regulatory milestone is significant because FDA clearance enables LUMA Vision to advance the expanded platform toward broader clinical use in the United States.
Integrated Imaging and Navigation Supports Cardiac Procedures
A central feature of VERAFEYE is the integration of multiple procedural functions into a single system. The platform combines imaging, visualization, navigation and guidance, allowing physicians to view anatomical information while simultaneously tracking devices and documenting therapy delivery. During ablation procedures, clinicians can mark treatment locations directly on the three-dimensional anatomical model. This capability is designed to provide visual confirmation of where therapy has been delivered while maintaining awareness of surrounding cardiac anatomy. LUMA Vision describes this integrated approach as procedural intelligence, with the platform intended to continuously combine anatomical and procedural information rather than requiring physicians to interpret information from multiple disconnected systems. The technology is particularly relevant to cardiac electrophysiology, where physicians perform complex minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms. Real-time visualization and accurate catheter positioning can be important during procedures such as cardiac ablation, where treatment must be delivered to specific anatomical targets. By combining ultrasound imaging with catheter tracking, VERAFEYE is designed to provide continuous procedural context while potentially reducing workflow interruptions.
LUMA Vision Targets Future Cardiac Lab Applications
The latest FDA clearance forms part of LUMA Vision’s broader strategy to establish VERAFEYE as a foundation for the cardiac lab of the future. The company plans a commercial launch in early 2027 and intends to expand the platform beyond arrhythmia procedures into additional cardiac applications. LUMA Vision said future development will include applications in left atrial appendage (LAA) procedures and structural heart interventions, potentially broadening the role of the platform across minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures. The company also envisions using data generated from real-world procedures to expand procedural guidance capabilities over time. As the platform accumulates anatomical and procedural information across cases, LUMA Vision aims to develop additional tools intended to help physicians make informed decisions during interventions. Importantly, FDA clearance applies to the cleared device capabilities and does not represent approval of a pharmaceutical treatment. VERAFEYE is a medical-device platform intended to support visualization, navigation and guidance during cardiac procedures. The regulatory milestone nevertheless represents an important development for cardiovascular MedTech, particularly as healthcare providers increasingly seek integrated technologies capable of combining imaging, navigation and procedural information. For cGxP.wire readers, LUMA Vision’s FDA clearance highlights the continuing evolution of image-guided cardiac intervention, where real-time visualization and device tracking are becoming increasingly important components of minimally invasive treatment. The expansion of VERAFEYE could help move cardiac procedural technology toward more integrated and intelligent workflows while establishing a platform for future applications across electrophysiology and structural heart procedures.
