Boston, Massachusetts, United States, October 28, 2026
Empatica, a company specialising in digital biomarkers and clinical-grade wearable technology, has announced the launch of WellPD, an FDA-cleared and CE-marked wearable medical device and companion application designed to help people living with Parkinson’s disease monitor their symptoms at home. Announced on October 28, 2026, the new solution combines continuous symptom monitoring, clinically validated algorithms and accessible digital health information to provide patients and caregivers with a clearer understanding of disease-related changes throughout the day. The wrist-worn device tracks important motor symptoms, including tremor, dyskinesia and bradykinesia, alongside sleep and physical activity. Its companion application converts collected measurements into easy-to-understand daily summaries, helping users identify symptom fluctuations and understand how medication schedules and everyday activities may influence their condition. The launch represents an important development in remote neurological monitoring, bringing advanced wearable technology into everyday Parkinson’s care beyond traditional clinical appointments.
WellPD Introduces Continuous Parkinson’s Symptom Monitoring
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and can cause symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement and involuntary movements. These symptoms may fluctuate throughout the day, particularly as medications begin to work or their effects gradually wear off. During routine medical appointments, patients may find it difficult to recall the exact timing, duration and severity of these changes. WellPD aims to address this challenge through continuous wrist-based monitoring, recording movement and other physiological signals that clinically validated algorithms translate into meaningful symptom measurements. The companion application provides daily summaries and allows users to review patterns involving motor symptoms, sleep, physical activity and medication timing. Patients can also maintain medication logs and receive reminders, helping them understand how treatment schedules relate to changes in their symptoms. Family members and caregivers can use the information to better understand patients’ daily experiences, while neurologists can review additional information between consultations. The system is intended to complement professional medical assessments rather than replace clinical evaluations or independent treatment decisions.
FDA-Cleared Wearable Combines Clinical Research and Technology
The WellPD platform builds on Empatica’s experience in medical wearables and the Parkinson’s monitoring expertise of PKG Health, which Empatica acquired in 2025. The underlying Parkinson’s monitoring technology has been supported by more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications and used across more than 150 hospitals and clinical research sites worldwide. The algorithms have also supported pharmaceutical company research, university investigations and clinical studies evaluating disease progression, treatment response and digital biomarkers. The FDA clearance covers Empatica’s Health Monitoring Platform for Parkinson’s disease monitoring under the 510(k) clearance pathway (K260374). The FDA issued its substantial-equivalence decision on August 14, 2026. The system brings together wearable devices, connected software, patient-facing applications and clinician-facing monitoring capabilities. Empatica has also obtained CE marking for WellPD, supporting its availability in applicable European markets. Matteo Lai, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Empatica, highlighted the company’s objective of making clinically meaningful health information more accessible to people living with Parkinson’s and their families. The launch demonstrates how digital health technology and validated wearable algorithms can help translate everyday physiological measurements into information that supports more informed healthcare conversations.
Global Availability Expands Access to Home Monitoring
Empatica announced that WellPD is available to order in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and several European Economic Area countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Luxembourg and Malta. The company has designed the solution to provide continuous monitoring without requiring patients to visit healthcare facilities for every assessment. The accompanying application brings together symptom measurements, medication information and activity summaries, helping users prepare for consultations with their healthcare providers. According to Empatica, the technology can provide valuable context about how Parkinson’s symptoms change during everyday activities and in response to medication. Neurologists may use this additional information alongside patient feedback and conventional clinical assessments when discussing individual care strategies. However, WellPD does not independently diagnose Parkinson’s disease or determine medication adjustments, and its monitoring information should be interpreted within the patient’s broader clinical context. With the launch of WellPD, Empatica is expanding its digital health portfolio and advancing the use of wearable medical technology in neurological care. The development also highlights the growing importance of remote patient monitoring, digital biomarkers and connected medical devices in improving the understanding of chronic neurological conditions.
