Ipsen has completed its acquisition of Memo Therapeutics AG, strengthening its Rare Disease pipeline with the addition of potravitug, a first-in-class monoclonal antibody targeting BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) reactivation in kidney transplant recipients. Currently, there are no approved targeted therapies specifically designed to treat BKPyV infection, leaving clinicians to rely primarily on reducing immunosuppressive medication, an approach that increases the risk of organ rejection. Potravitug has been specifically developed to neutralize BKPyV while preserving transplant function, addressing one of the most significant unmet needs in kidney transplantation. Clinical findings from the Phase II SAFE KIDNEY II trial demonstrated promising antiviral responses and encouraging nephropathy resolution, providing a strong scientific foundation for the next stages of clinical development.
