Heru announced the U.S. launch of PretestPro, a new software capability for its Heru Prime VR-powered diagnostic headset, designed to consolidate multiple pretest examinations into a single guided workflow. PretestPro can perform four pretest exams in approximately 90 seconds, giving ophthalmology and optometry practices a technology-driven approach to replacing fragmented manual testing processes. The company said the software will be provided free to current and future Heru Prime customers through an automatic software update, supporting broader adoption without requiring additional hardware investment. PretestPro Combines Four Eye Exams in One Wearable Workflow
PretestPro integrates four critical pretesting assessments into a single VR-guided examination, including 8-point suprathreshold testing, near cover testing, extraocular motility (EOM), and quantitative pupillometry with RAPD and PERRLA status. The system uses Heru’s patient-friendly AI-driven fixation target, Nora, to guide patients through the testing process while the wearable platform captures and consolidates quantitative results. Heru said its technology is built on approximately 15 years of vision science research and clinical validation work originating at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, supporting the development of its VR and eye-tracking modalities. The consolidated approach is intended to replace subjective and manually intensive elements of traditional pretesting with a more standardized digital workflow. Heru Prime users can also conduct Visual Acuity Testing in an additional 30 seconds, allowing clinicians to complete a broader portion of pretesting in approximately two minutes. For eye-care practices, the workflow is designed to potentially improve exam-lane throughput while giving clinicians more time for patient interaction, education and clinical decision-making.
