BOSTON and YOKNEAM, Israel, May 14, 2026
Butterfly Medical announced the successful completion of an upsized $21 million Series C financing round to accelerate regulatory and commercial development of its minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The medical device company stated that the financing attracted strong institutional investor demand, reinforcing confidence in the company’s proprietary non-surgical technology and its competitive positioning within the rapidly growing global BPH treatment market.
The financing round included participation from both new and existing investors, including the European Innovation Council (EIC), Junson Capital, MedVenture, and New Rhein Healthcare Investors. Butterfly Medical said the newly secured capital will support ongoing U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory activities, commercialization planning, and broader global market expansion efforts for its innovative prostate retraction technology.
Funding Supports FDA Pathway and Commercial Expansion
Butterfly Medical confirmed that its pivotal clinical trial has been completed and that regulatory filings with the FDA are currently underway. The company plans to use the Series C proceeds to support U.S. regulatory review activities while preparing for commercial launch initiatives in future markets. The financing also positions the company to scale manufacturing, physician training, and broader adoption strategies as demand for minimally invasive BPH therapies continues to increase globally.
Patrick MacCarthy, Chief Executive Officer of Butterfly Medical, stated that the oversubscribed financing round validates both the significant market opportunity and clinical potential of the company’s proprietary prostatic retraction device. He emphasized that Butterfly Medical’s focus is now centered on working closely with the FDA while advancing commercialization plans designed to improve quality of life for men suffering from BPH symptoms.
The company also announced plans to showcase its technology during the American Urological Association (AUA) 2026 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., where clinicians and healthcare professionals will have the opportunity to review the latest clinical and technological developments related to the device.
Minimally Invasive Technology Targets Growing BPH Burden
Butterfly Medical’s flagship device is designed as a minimally invasive implantable solution intended to alleviate urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, a highly prevalent condition affecting aging men worldwide. BPH occurs when the prostate gland enlarges and obstructs urinary flow, leading to symptoms including urinary urgency, weak stream, nocturia, incomplete bladder emptying, and reduced quality of life.
Unlike traditional surgical approaches that often involve cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue, the Butterfly device uses a proprietary mechanical mechanism to retract the lateral lobes of the prostate and restore natural urinary flow. The company stated that the anatomically designed implant avoids permanent tissue destruction and remains fully reversible, potentially offering significant advantages for both patients and physicians seeking lower-risk treatment alternatives.
The device has already received CE Mark certification in Europe, allowing commercial use in European markets. However, the technology has not yet received FDA approval in the United States and currently remains limited to investigational use under federal regulations.
Industry experts continue to observe growing demand for minimally invasive BPH solutions as healthcare systems seek procedures capable of reducing hospitalization time, preserving quality of life, and minimizing complications associated with traditional surgical interventions.
Investors Highlight Clinical and Commercial Potential
New Rhein Healthcare Investors Managing Partner and Butterfly Medical Chairman Nayan Parekh, PhD, stated that investors were particularly impressed by the company’s operational efficiency, noting that Butterfly Medical achieved clinical development milestones comparable to competing minimally invasive BPH technologies using substantially less capital.
Parekh also highlighted the platform’s favorable clinical profile, simplified physician workflow, competitive cost-of-goods structure, and lack of durable capital equipment requirements as factors supporting potential large-scale market adoption. Investors believe these advantages may position Butterfly Medical favorably within the expanding urology and minimally invasive surgical device sector.
Butterfly Medical stated that its long-term goal is to redefine the standard of care for millions of men living with BPH by offering a non-surgical alternative to both chronic medication therapy and invasive prostate surgery. As global prevalence of BPH continues to rise with aging populations, the company believes demand for less invasive and more patient-friendly treatment technologies will continue accelerating.
