HEIDELBERG, Germany — August 25, 2026
Revier Therapeutics has officially launched operations following the closing of a €6 million seed financing to advance a new therapeutic strategy targeting class IIa histone deacetylases (HDACs) in cardiometabolic diseases. The financing supports development of the company’s preclinical pipeline, with its lead program focused on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and a second program targeting atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The company’s approach is centered on selectively modulating class IIa HDAC activity rather than broadly inhibiting multiple HDAC classes, with the goal of developing more precise treatments for cardiovascular disease.
Revier Builds Selective HDAC Platform
The company’s technology is based on selective class IIa HDAC inhibitors, a therapeutic approach emerging from foundational cardiovascular research conducted at Heidelberg University. HDAC enzymes regulate biological processes involved in multiple diseases, but earlier generations of HDAC inhibitors generally affected several HDAC classes simultaneously, creating concerns around dose-limiting side effects. Revier is developing orally available small molecules designed to selectively inhibit the disease-driving enzymatic activity of class IIa HDACs while preserving their essential biological functions and avoiding inhibition of canonical class I HDACs. This differentiated approach is intended to improve the therapeutic precision of HDAC modulation and potentially overcome limitations associated with broader HDAC inhibition.
€6 Million Seed Financing Supports Pipeline
The €6 million financing round was led by KHAN Technology Transfer Fund II, with participation from High-Tech Gründerfonds, VORNvc and private investors through Revier Invest Heidelberg. Revier plans to use the capital to advance its preclinical cardiometabolic pipeline, including the HFpEF lead program and ASCVD program, while also building its operational, scientific and clinical capabilities. The financing provides the newly launched company with resources to progress its discovery programs toward clinical development. The company is positioning its platform around diseases where significant unmet medical needs remain despite advances in cardiovascular medicine, particularly conditions involving complex disease-driving biology rather than a single conventional therapeutic target.
Revier Targets HFpEF and ASCVD
Revier’s initial pipeline focuses on HFpEF and ASCVD, two major cardiometabolic conditions with substantial patient populations and continuing treatment challenges. The company believes selective class IIa HDAC inhibition could potentially address underlying disease mechanisms and support the development of disease-modifying therapies. Revier has assembled a leadership team combining cardiovascular research, drug discovery and clinical development expertise, including Scientific Founder Prof. Johannes Backs, CEO Prof. Eva van Rooij, CTO Mike Nolan, CSO Matthias Dewenter and CMO Prof. Norbert Frey. The company’s immediate priority is to advance its preclinical programs and establish the scientific and development foundation needed to move its lead candidates toward the clinic. The launch and financing therefore mark the beginning of a new cardiometabolic drug-development platform centered on selective HDAC biology.
