Alamar Biosciences has partnered with leading U.S. research universities to launch a national-scale proteomics initiative aimed at accelerating the discovery and validation of blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The initiative will leverage Alamar’s NULISAseq™ Neuro 220 panel to profile approximately 21,000 plasma samples collected from 10,000 participants enrolled through the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) network across the United States. Designed to strengthen early disease detection, precision diagnostics, and therapeutic development, the project represents one of the largest coordinated efforts to generate high-resolution proteomic data for neurodegenerative disease research. By integrating ultra-sensitive precision proteomics, centralized sample resources, and open scientific collaboration, the initiative is expected to accelerate biomarker discovery while supporting the next generation of AI-driven research, precision medicine, and clinical innovation for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
National Proteomics Project Advances Blood-Based Biomarker Discovery
The project is co-led by leading investigators from Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin, and Indiana University, with biological samples provided through the National Centralized Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (NCRAD). Researchers will utilize the NULISAseq™ Neuro 220 panel, enhanced with the newly developed eMTBR-Tau assay, allowing simultaneous measurement of tau pathology, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, alpha-synuclein biology, and multiple protein aggregation biomarkers from a single blood sample. The advanced multiplexed platform provides attomolar sensitivity, enabling highly accurate detection of low-abundance proteins that are difficult to quantify using conventional technologies. This comprehensive approach will generate one of the largest blood-based proteomic datasets ever assembled for Alzheimer’s disease research, providing scientists with powerful tools to investigate disease mechanisms, validate biomarkers, and identify novel therapeutic targets across multiple neurodegenerative disorders.
Open Data Platform to Accelerate AI-Driven Translational Research
A defining feature of the initiative is its commitment to open science and collaborative innovation. The resulting proteomic dataset will be publicly accessible and linked through National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) identifiers, enabling integration with extensive clinical, cognitive, neuroimaging, genomic, genetic, neuropathology, and fluid biomarker data collected through the ADRC program. The initiative forms part of the Consortium for Clarity in ADRD Research Through Imaging (CLARiTI) portfolio and is supported through collaborations with the Alzheimer’s Association, philanthropic organizations, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative. Future phases will include a national AI and computational data challenge, inviting researchers worldwide to develop advanced analytical models capable of improving disease classification, predicting disease progression, and identifying novel biomarker signatures that may transform future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
