SEATTLE, June 17, 2026
Vedana Therapeutics has officially emerged from stealth with $46 million in Series A financing to accelerate the development of next-generation preventive migraine therapies targeting clinically validated biological pathways beyond current treatment options. The financing round was co-led by Westlake BioPartners and Canaan Partners, with participation from Dawn Biopharma and Alexandria Venture Investments. The newly launched biotechnology company was founded by a team of internationally recognized migraine researchers, drug developers, and biotechnology executives responsible for developing several approved migraine therapies, including CGRP antibody treatments. The investment will support the advancement of Vedana’s proprietary portfolio of subcutaneously administered long-acting antibody therapies designed to improve migraine prevention and address the significant unmet needs of patients who continue to experience frequent migraine attacks despite existing treatments.
Funding Supports Development of Next-Generation Migraine Antibody Therapies
The $46 million Series A financing will primarily fund the advancement of Vedana’s internally discovered pipeline of antibody-based therapies targeting clinically validated migraine pathways, including pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). While currently approved CGRP-targeted therapies have significantly improved migraine treatment, the company notes that nearly two-thirds of patients remain inadequately controlled, creating demand for new therapeutic approaches. Vedana’s lead development candidate is a next-generation anti-PACAP monoclonal antibody, while its second program is a bispecific antibody designed to simultaneously target both PACAP and CGRP. By combining these two validated biological pathways, the company aims to deliver greater clinical benefit for patients who do not achieve sufficient migraine control with existing single-target therapies. The antibody programs are engineered for long half-life, high potency, and convenient self-administration through subcutaneous injection, allowing patients to receive treatment at home.
Experienced Leadership Brings Proven Migraine Drug Development Expertise
Vedana Therapeutics has assembled one of the industry’s most experienced leadership teams dedicated exclusively to migraine research and drug development. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anurag Agarwal previously led multiple biotechnology company creation initiatives during his tenure at Osage University Partners, while Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Leon Garcia played a central role in discovering and developing both anti-CGRP and anti-PACAP antibodies at Alder BioPharmaceuticals, later acquired by Lundbeck. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ernesto Aycardi brings extensive global clinical development experience, including leadership of pivotal clinical studies supporting the approval of AJOVY® (fremanezumab). The company is further supported by an advisory board featuring several internationally recognized migraine experts who contributed to the development of leading therapies such as Aimovig® and AJOVY®, providing Vedana with deep expertise spanning antibody engineering, clinical development, regulatory strategy, and commercialization.
Vedana Aims to Expand Treatment Options Beyond First-Generation CGRP Therapies
Vedana Therapeutics believes its innovative approach represents the next evolution in migraine prevention by targeting complementary biological mechanisms responsible for migraine attacks. PACAP has emerged as one of the most promising new therapeutic targets following extensive clinical research demonstrating its important role in migraine pathophysiology. By combining PACAP inhibition with established CGRP-targeted therapy, Vedana aims to develop therapies capable of delivering improved efficacy for patients with persistent or difficult-to-control migraine. The company’s long-term vision is to achieve greater migraine freedom through next-generation biologic medicines that address the limitations of first-generation therapies. Supported by its experienced scientific team, strong venture capital backing, and a pipeline built on clinically validated biology, Vedana Therapeutics is positioning itself to become a significant innovator in the rapidly evolving migraine therapeutics market while advancing new preventive treatment options for patients worldwide.
