Telum Therapeutics announced the successful completion of an €18 million Series A financing round to accelerate the clinical development of its lead antimicrobial candidate for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) caused by multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. The financing was led by the AMR Action Fund, with participation from Inveready and continued backing from Invivo Partners, CDTI through SICC Innvierte, Clave Capital, and Sodena. The investment will fund the advancement of Telum’s lead program through Phase 1 clinical trials, generating key safety and translational data while supporting expansion of the company’s broader antimicrobial pipeline. The funding marks a major milestone for the Spanish biotechnology company as it seeks to address the growing global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through next-generation, protein-based antimicrobial therapies.
Series A Financing Accelerates Lead Antimicrobial Candidate
The newly secured capital will primarily support the development of Telum’s lead therapeutic candidate targeting Acinetobacter baumannii, one of the most difficult multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens responsible for severe hospital-acquired infections worldwide. Built using the company’s proprietary APEX® discovery platform, the investigational therapy is designed as a biologically derived protein-based antimicrobial capable of overcoming limitations associated with conventional antibiotics. Company executives stated that the financing provides a clear pathway to complete Phase 1 clinical development, while also strengthening translational research and manufacturing activities required for future clinical studies. The investment also allows Telum to continue expanding its pipeline targeting both Gram-negative and Gram-positive drug-resistant pathogens.
