TekniPlex Healthcare announced that it will present its latest recyclable pharmaceutical blister packaging technologies and advanced healthcare material innovations at The Pharma Days 2026 conference in Geneva, Switzerland. The company plans to showcase next-generation polymer solutions, advanced barrier materials, and expanded multidose vial manufacturing capabilities designed to help pharmaceutical companies meet evolving sustainability and regulatory expectations while maintaining high standards for product protection and manufacturability.
The company’s presentation at the international pharmaceutical packaging event will focus on how new material science innovations are supporting compliance with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) while improving recyclability and minimizing packaging waste in the pharmaceutical industry. TekniPlex Healthcare stated that sustainability is rapidly becoming a core requirement for pharmaceutical packaging developers as healthcare companies seek environmentally responsible solutions without compromising drug stability or patient safety.
PPWR Regulations Drive Sustainable Packaging Innovation
At The Pharma Days 2026, Robin Van Landeghem, Head of Strategic Innovation and Market Development at TekniPlex Healthcare, will present the company’s approach to developing recyclable blister packaging technologies under the changing European regulatory framework. The presentation will examine how pharmaceutical companies are adapting to the PPWR’s mandatory minimization requirements focused on reducing material use and packaging waste.
Although primary pharmaceutical packaging remains exempt from certain recyclability and recycled-content mandates when product quality may be affected, the industry continues facing increasing pressure to reduce material consumption and improve sustainability profiles. TekniPlex Healthcare noted that recyclable polymer technologies are quickly becoming a baseline expectation within pharmaceutical packaging markets.
The company emphasized that pharmaceutical manufacturers require solutions capable of balancing sustainability goals with critical drug protection requirements, including moisture barriers, oxygen resistance, manufacturability, and long-term product stability. TekniPlex Healthcare stated that its role is to provide pharmaceutical companies with technical guidance and advanced materials that support compliance with evolving environmental standards while preserving packaging performance.
Advanced Recyclable Blister Technologies Expand
TekniPlex Healthcare plans to showcase multiple recyclable blister packaging solutions across varying moisture barrier requirements. For applications requiring moderate to high moisture protection, the company’s Tekniflex® COC thermoformable blister films paired with barrier polypropylene lidding films are designed for recyclability within the PP #5 waste stream.
For pharmaceutical products requiring minimal moisture barrier protection, the company also developed thermoformable polyester blister films and push-through polyester lidding films recyclable within the PETE #1 waste stream. TekniPlex Healthcare additionally introduced a pharmaceutical-grade blister film containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content through a mass balance manufacturing approach developed in partnership with Alpek Polyester.
In addition to recyclable packaging materials, the company will feature advanced barrier laminate technologies including Aclar® laminates and PFAS-free SBC PVDC-coated PVC structures engineered to provide strong protection against moisture and oxygen exposure for drugs with demanding stability requirements.
Industry analysts continue to identify sustainable pharmaceutical packaging as one of the fastest-growing segments within healthcare manufacturing and materials science, driven by stricter environmental regulations, ESG initiatives, and rising demand for recyclable healthcare packaging systems.
Expanded Multidose Vial Manufacturing Supports Drug Delivery
TekniPlex Healthcare also announced expanded injection blow molding capacity at its Modena, Italy facility to support growing demand for multidose vial packaging used in pharmaceutical liquid applications. The expansion includes manufacturing capabilities for ophthalmic drug delivery systems, including squeezable multidose containers compatible with preservative-free ophthalmic formulations.
The company stated that its multidose vial packaging technologies are designed to support a wide range of pharmaceutical liquid therapies while improving packaging precision, sterility, and patient usability. Healthcare experts note that advanced multidose packaging solutions are becoming increasingly important as pharmaceutical manufacturers develop more specialized biologics, ophthalmic treatments, and preservative-free formulations.
As pharmaceutical companies continue prioritizing sustainability, regulatory compliance, and advanced packaging functionality, TekniPlex Healthcare believes its recyclable blister technologies and healthcare materials innovations position the company at the forefront of next-generation pharmaceutical packaging development.
