Seek Labs announced the publication of peer-reviewed research in Nature Communications validating ANINA™ (Annexing Isothermal Nucleotide Amplification), its proprietary molecular amplification technology designed to deliver PCR-level sensitivity without laboratory instruments or temperature control. The published study establishes the scientific foundation for the company’s SeekIt™ molecular diagnostic platform, which combines target detection, amplification, and readout into a single room-temperature reaction. According to the company, ANINA has the potential to eliminate the long-standing tradeoff between molecular test performance, speed, and accessibility, supporting future applications in point-of-care diagnostics, public health, veterinary medicine, and biosecurity.
Peer-Reviewed Study Demonstrates PCR-Level Performance Without Laboratory Equipment
The published research evaluated ANINA across multiple pathogens, including White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and Neisseria gonorrhoeae using shrimp tissue, pooled human saliva, and simulated human urine samples. Unlike conventional molecular diagnostics that require thermal cyclers and complex laboratory workflows, ANINA performs amplification and detection simultaneously at ambient temperature. The technology enables direct positive or negative results using a simple lateral-flow paper strip without additional enzymes, heating equipment, or post-amplification processing. Researchers also demonstrated compatibility with conventional qPCR instruments, where ANINA delivered comparable quantitative accuracy while producing results two to four times faster than standard qPCR methods..
Technology Demonstrates High Sensitivity, Specificity and Faster Testing
According to the publication, ANINA detected as few as one to ten copies of viral DNA in human saliva samples, achieving sensitivity comparable to PCR during the earliest stages of infection. The platform also accurately identified bacterial targets without false-positive results while maintaining strong analytical specificity. In a real-world animal infection model involving shrimp infected with White Spot Syndrome Virus, ANINA identified infections in less than 45 minutes using only disposable components and no powered equipment, outperforming a commercially available rapid antigen test. SeekIt Platform Targets Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Biosecurity Applications
Seek Labs plans to leverage the validated ANINA chemistry through its SeekIt™ molecular diagnostic platform, initially focusing on respiratory disease diagnostics and biosecurity applications where rapid, laboratory-independent testing can improve healthcare decision-making. Company leadership emphasized that the technology is designed as a fundamentally new molecular chemistry rather than a miniaturized laboratory test.
