PRISM BioLab Co., Ltd. and Receptor.AI Inc. have announced a strategic drug discovery collaboration aimed at accelerating the development of novel therapeutics using artificial intelligence and advanced chemistry platforms. The partnership will combine PRISM BioLab’s proprietary PepMetics® peptide-mimetic chemistry technology with Receptor.AI’s physics-informed generative AI platform to build an integrated system capable of identifying orally available small-molecule therapies targeting challenging biological pathways. The collaboration reflects a growing trend in the biopharmaceutical industry toward AI-driven drug discovery platforms, which aim to shorten research timelines and improve the success rate of therapeutic candidate development. According to the companies, the partnership will focus initially on drug targets involved in metabolic diseases, including obesity, while also creating a scalable platform capable of supporting future collaborations with pharmaceutical partners.
Integrating AI and PepMetics® Chemistry for Drug Discovery
The collaboration seeks to integrate PRISM BioLab’s PepMetics® chemical technology, which produces three-dimensional small molecules that mimic α-helix and β-turn protein structures, with Receptor.AI’s AI-powered molecular design and optimization algorithms. This integration will enable scientists to explore previously difficult drug targets, including intracellular protein–protein interactions (PPIs), membrane proteins, and complex receptor systems, which have historically been challenging for traditional small-molecule drug discovery.
Through the partnership, Receptor.AI will perform AI-based molecular design and chemical navigation, utilizing PRISM BioLab’s specialized chemical libraries to identify promising compounds. Researchers believe this combination of computational modeling, physics-guided simulation, and experimental chemistry can accelerate the identification of hit molecules, lead compounds, and eventual clinical candidates.
The companies emphasize that the goal is not only to discover potential therapeutic compounds but also to establish a repeatable AI-guided drug discovery framework capable of supporting multiple research programs in the future.
Targeting Complex Disease Pathways with Innovative Technology
Protein–protein interactions represent a significant frontier in pharmaceutical research because they regulate many essential cellular processes related to cancer, metabolic disease, autoimmune disorders, and fibrosis. However, many PPI targets have historically been considered “undruggable” due to the structural complexity of the interacting proteins. PRISM BioLab’s PepMetics® technology platform addresses this challenge by designing conformationally rigid molecules that replicate key protein structural motifs, allowing scientists to create small-molecule inhibitors capable of disrupting disease-related interactions inside cells.
By pairing this chemistry with Receptor.AI’s QuorumMap chemical space navigation system and multi-objective optimization engine, the collaboration aims to identify molecules that balance binding affinity, stability, permeability, and oral bioavailability—critical properties required for successful drug candidates. Researchers expect that this integrated approach will generate therapeutic compounds that are more likely to translate into effective medicines, while also reducing the time required to progress from early discovery to preclinical development.
Building a Next-Generation Drug Discovery Platform
Beyond individual therapeutic candidates, the companies emphasize that the partnership aims to create a scalable and collaborative drug discovery ecosystem that can attract pharmaceutical partners seeking access to advanced computational and chemical technologies.
The collaboration will initially focus on one selected receptor target associated with metabolic disease, but the integrated platform could be expanded to address multiple therapeutic areas in the future. Both organizations share a strategic vision of combining cutting-edge AI technologies with experimental drug discovery expertise, enabling scientists to move from traditional screening approaches toward data-driven molecular design strategies.
This approach reflects the growing importance of TechBio innovation, where biotechnology and artificial intelligence converge to transform pharmaceutical research and development. By leveraging their complementary capabilities, PRISM BioLab and Receptor.AI aim to accelerate the creation of innovative medicines and unlock new opportunities for pharmaceutical collaboration, ultimately contributing to the development of therapies for patients with complex diseases.
