Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has unveiled compelling new long-term data demonstrating the sustained effectiveness of AUSTEDO® (deutetrabenazine) tablets and AUSTEDO XR® (deutetrabenazine) extended-release tablets in the treatment and management of Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), a chronic and often debilitating movement disorder affecting patients receiving certain psychiatric medications. The findings, presented at Psych Congress Elevate 2026, provide important new insights into the benefits of early intervention, long-term therapy adherence, and improved disease recognition, reinforcing Teva’s commitment to advancing care for individuals living with TD. The latest analyses from the IMPACT-TD Registry, the largest real-world study of TD, and the long-term RIM-TD study demonstrate meaningful improvements in patient outcomes and quality of life while expanding clinical understanding of disease management across diverse patient populations.
Real-World Evidence Demonstrates Improvement in Mild Tardive Dyskinesia
One of the most significant findings comes from the IMPACT-TD Registry, which evaluated patients with mild TD symptoms who initiated treatment with AUSTEDO or AUSTEDO XR. Results showed that all participants experienced reductions in Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) scores within three months of treatment while maintaining psychiatric stability. Importantly, patients also reported improvements in activities of daily living, psychosocial functioning, speech, communication, and overall quality of life.
These findings challenge the perception that mild TD should remain untreated and support earlier intervention strategies. Clinicians noted that even seemingly mild involuntary movements can significantly affect patient well-being, social interactions, and daily functioning, highlighting the value of proactive diagnosis and treatment.
Long-Term Treatment Delivers Sustained Clinical Benefits
Additional evidence from the three-year RIM-TD study reinforced the importance of maintaining therapy over time. More than 50% of patients achieved clinically meaningful improvement by week 15, while an additional 23% of patients experienced significant benefits after week 15, demonstrating that continued treatment may unlock further symptom control. The findings underscore the importance of persistence with therapy and suggest that patients who remain on treatment can experience progressive improvement in movement symptoms.
This long-term evidence provides healthcare professionals with valuable guidance when discussing treatment expectations and adherence strategies with patients living with TD. The study also supports the role of AUSTEDO and AUSTEDO XR as cornerstone therapies in the ongoing management of movement disorders associated with psychiatric treatment.
Addressing the Tardive Dyskinesia Diagnosis Gap
Teva also presented findings focused on improving disease recognition through caregiver education initiatives. The study revealed that providing TD-specific educational resources through online platforms encouraged meaningful discussions between caregivers and healthcare providers. Within six months, 53% of at-risk individuals discussed TD with a healthcare professional, and 34% received a formal diagnosis, highlighting an effective strategy to reduce underdiagnosis and improve access to treatment. These results emphasize the critical importance of education and awareness in identifying TD earlier and connecting patients to effective therapeutic options.
As awareness grows, healthcare systems may be better positioned to address the significant burden associated with delayed diagnosis and untreated disease. Teva’s comprehensive data package strengthens the evidence supporting AUSTEDO and AUSTEDO XR while reinforcing the company’s leadership in neuroscience and movement disorder innovation. The findings collectively demonstrate that early diagnosis, sustained treatment, and patient-centered care can significantly improve outcomes for individuals living with Tardive Dyskinesia, offering renewed hope for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers worldwide.
