SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, April 1, 2026
Merit Medical Systems, Inc. has announced the acquisition of View Point Medical, Inc. in a transaction valued at approximately $140 million, significantly strengthening its therapeutic oncology portfolio and expanding capabilities in tumor localization technologies. The deal includes an upfront cash payment and deferred payments, positioning Merit to enhance its presence in precision oncology and diagnostic imaging solutions.
Acquisition Strengthens Oncology Device Portfolio
The acquisition brings View Point’s OneMark® Detection Imaging System and ultrasound-enhanced tissue markers into Merit’s product portfolio, complementing its existing SCOUT® radar-based localization platform. These technologies are designed to improve tumor localization during biopsy and surgical planning, enabling clinicians to identify and mark suspicious lesions with greater accuracy.
The OneMark system, which is FDA-cleared, allows tissue markers to be visible across multiple imaging modalities, enhancing diagnostic precision while minimizing interference with imaging studies. This integration provides physicians with more flexible and accurate localization options, particularly in breast and soft tissue tumor procedures. By combining SCOUT and OneMark technologies, Merit aims to streamline workflows and reduce the need for additional localization procedures prior to surgery.
Importantly, the acquisition addresses a significant clinical need, as approximately 1.3 million biopsy procedures are performed annually in the United States, where accurate tumor localization plays a critical role in treatment planning and patient outcomes.
Enhancing Clinical Efficiency and Patient Outcomes
A major advantage of this acquisition lies in its potential to improve clinical efficiency and patient experience. By enabling tumor localization at the time of biopsy, the combined technology platform can help reduce the need for separate procedures, thereby minimizing patient burden and healthcare costs.
The ability to localize lesions earlier in the cancer care pathway supports more effective treatment planning and may lead to improved surgical precision. This is particularly important in oncology, where accurate localization directly impacts treatment success and long-term outcomes.
Additionally, the integration of these technologies aligns with broader trends in healthcare toward minimally invasive procedures and precision medicine, where advanced imaging and localization tools are essential for delivering targeted therapies. The acquisition reinforces Merit’s commitment to innovation in oncology and patient-centered care, ensuring that clinicians have access to advanced tools for diagnosis and treatment.
Strategic Growth and Financial Outlook
From a strategic perspective, the acquisition is expected to contribute to Merit’s long-term revenue growth and market expansion. While initial financial impact in 2026 is projected to be modest, with revenue contributions estimated between $2 million and $4 million, the company anticipates significant growth in subsequent years, driven by increasing adoption of the OneMark system.
By 2027, the acquisition is projected to generate $14 million to $16 million in revenue, with strong gross margins and long-term profitability. The company expects the product line to achieve annual growth rates of at least 20%, reflecting strong market demand for advanced tumor localization technologies.
Furthermore, the acquisition strengthens Merit’s position in the global medical device market, enabling the company to expand its footprint in oncology and leverage synergies across its product portfolio. The integration of View Point’s technology is expected to drive innovation, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
The acquisition of View Point Medical represents a strategic milestone for Merit Medical, enhancing its capabilities in oncology diagnostics and tumor localization technologies. By integrating advanced imaging systems with its existing platform, the company is well-positioned to deliver more precise, efficient, and patient-centric solutions in cancer care. This move underscores the growing importance of innovation and integration in medical technology, paving the way for improved clinical outcomes and sustained growth in the oncology sector.
