Lunai Bioworks, Inc. (Nasdaq: LNAI) has expanded its Parkinson’s disease research platform through an exclusive worldwide license and collaboration agreement with Tanaist, Inc., adding human cellular phenotyping capabilities to its AI-driven disease discovery and validation workflow. The collaboration is designed to connect Parkinson’s patient subtypes identified through Lunai’s Augusta AI platform with independent patient cohorts and measurable human cellular biology. By combining computational analysis, longitudinal patient data, proteomic information and experimental cellular validation, the companies aim to improve understanding of disease mechanisms and identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets that could support future drug-development programs.
Tanaist Adds Human Cellular Validation to AI Platform
Under the agreement, Lunai receives exclusive rights to Tanaist’s licensed cellular phenotyping technology in the Parkinson’s disease field for programs based on patient phenoclusters identified by Lunai. The companies plan to determine whether Lunai’s clinical and proteomic signatures can be reproduced across additional Parkinson’s cohorts and whether those signatures correspond to measurable differences in human cellular biology. This approach is intended to provide an additional layer of validation for findings generated through computational analysis and help determine which disease signals are sufficiently robust and biologically meaningful to advance toward therapeutic development.
Tanaist’s precision-medicine platform combines patient data with dynamic human cellular phenotyping to investigate biological differences that may not be apparent from conventional clinical information alone. According to Lunai, the scientific approach behind the platform has been demonstrated in peer-reviewed research published in Nature Genetics and Science Translational Medicine, including research connecting human cellular phenotypes with genetic mechanisms, disease biology and potential therapeutic targets. The collaboration therefore provides Lunai with an experimental framework for testing AI-generated hypotheses against human cellular biology.
Lunai Advances Parkinson’s Patient Stratification
The new agreement builds on Lunai’s previous analysis of longitudinal clinical information and more than 4,500 proteomic probes from more than 650 participants in the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative. Using its Augusta AI platform, Lunai identified three clinically distinct Parkinson’s subtypes associated with different patterns of disease progression. The company characterized these groups by features including rapid motor progression, rapid neurological and cognitive decline, and female-enriched functional impairment.
The next phase of research will investigate whether these findings can be reproduced across additional patient cohorts and whether differences observed in clinical and proteomic data correspond to distinct cellular mechanisms. Establishing that relationship could be important for determining whether the identified Parkinson’s subtypes can eventually support patient enrichment, biomarker development and therapeutic target selection. Lunai said the planned studies will use retrospective patient cohorts, cellular phenotypes and multiple data modalities to provide independent validation of its disease classifications.
Integrated Platform Targets Parkinson’s Drug Discovery
The Tanaist agreement forms part of Lunai’s broader strategy to build an integrated Parkinson’s discovery and validation platform. The company is combining AI-based analysis of longitudinal patient outcomes with experimental systems designed to test whether computationally identified disease signals have a meaningful biological basis. Lunai said the collaboration with Tanaist follows its August 2026 collaboration with BrainStorm Therapeutics, creating multiple approaches for evaluating the reproducibility and biological relevance of its Parkinson’s findings. Under the agreement, Lunai will own collaboration-generated analyses, biomarker findings and other results, while Tanaist retains ownership of its underlying cellular phenotyping platform. The companies will conduct individual studies under agreed Statements of Work and applicable data-use requirements. The ultimate objective is to create a path from patient stratification to biological validation, biomarker discovery and therapeutic target development.
The collaboration highlights the growing role of AI, precision medicine and human cellular models in pharmaceutical research. For Parkinson’s disease, where patients can experience substantially different disease trajectories, identifying biologically meaningful subgroups could help researchers design more targeted development strategies. However, the current work remains at the research and validation stage, and the findings will require further independent and prospective validation before any potential therapeutic or diagnostic applications can be established.
