Johnson & Johnson has announced that it has received CE Marking for ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2-Week, a new reusable contact lens designed to provide comfort and visual clarity throughout a two-week wear cycle. The lens brings the company’s advanced ACUVUE OASYS MAX technologies to the reusable contact lens segment and is designed for consumers seeking lasting comfort and clear vision amid increasingly screen-intensive lifestyles. The new lens is expected to launch in select European countries later in 2026, followed by broader market expansion in 2027 and 2028, subject to local regulatory approvals and market readiness.
Johnson & Johnson Expands ACUVUE OASYS MAX Portfolio
The ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2-Week lens expands Johnson & Johnson’s existing ACUVUE OASYS MAX portfolio with a frequent-replacement reusable option. The company said the new lens is intended to address evolving vision and comfort needs among reusable contact lens wearers, particularly as everyday exposure to digital devices continues to increase. Johnson & Johnson highlighted that approximately 140 million people globally wear contact lenses, with around half choosing reusable lenses. Comfort remains a leading consideration for contact lens users, while prolonged digital-device use can contribute to symptoms such as eye dryness and reduced visual clarity. The new lens has therefore been designed to combine established reusable-lens wear patterns with technologies intended to support comfort and vision throughout the full two-week period. The product incorporates Eye-Inspired Designs alongside Johnson & Johnson’s proprietary MAX technologies. According to the company, these technologies are intended to help provide a combination of visual clarity and comfort through day 14 of the wear cycle. Clinical testing cited by Johnson & Johnson found that 99% of subjects wearing ACUVUE OASYS 2-Week were successfully refit into ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2-Week using the same power, base curve and diameter.
MAX Technologies Target Comfort and Vision
ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2-Week incorporates several technologies designed to address different aspects of contact lens performance. The lens features OptiBlue Light Filter, which the company says filters at least 60% of blue-violet light, described by Johnson & Johnson as the highest level among reusable contact lenses based on publicly available information for standard daily-wear reusable soft lenses as of June 2026. The lens also includes TearStable Technology, which is designed to help maintain moisture and support comfort throughout the day. The technology is intended to help retain moisture during lens wear, an important consideration for users who experience discomfort or dryness during prolonged periods of visual activity. In addition, Class 1 UV blocking is incorporated into each lens to help shield the eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Johnson & Johnson notes that UV-blocking contact lenses are not substitutes for protective eyewear, because contact lenses do not completely cover the eye or surrounding area. The company also states that filtering high-energy visible light has not been demonstrated to provide a systemic or ocular health benefit. The combined technologies are designed to support vision in different everyday environments, including digital screen use, outdoor activities and night driving. The product is intended for vision correction, and users remain subject to the standard risks associated with contact lens wear, including irritation, discomfort and potentially serious eye complications.
CE Mark Supports European Market Launch
The CE Marking represents an important regulatory milestone for Johnson & Johnson’s Vision business and allows the company to begin a phased European rollout of ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2-Week. The product is expected to become available initially in select European markets later in 2026, with broader expansion planned during 2027 and 2028, depending on local regulatory requirements and market readiness. For eye-care professionals, Johnson & Johnson designed the new lens to provide a familiar fitting experience for existing ACUVUE OASYS 2-Week wearers. The company said the same fitting process can be used without additional chair time, potentially simplifying the transition for both practitioners and patients. The launch adds another product to Johnson & Johnson’s broader ACUVUE OASYS MAX portfolio and reflects continued development of reusable contact lens technologies focused on comfort, visual performance and digital lifestyles. The CE Mark milestone positions the new two-week lens for European commercialization while expanding options available to patients who prefer reusable contact lenses over daily disposable products.
