Insulet Corporation announced the commercial launch of its Omnipod® 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System and the Omnipod Discover™ data management platform in Spain, marking another significant milestone in the company’s international expansion strategy. Spain becomes the 26th country where Insulet markets Omnipod products and the 20th country to offer Omnipod 5, broadening access to advanced tubeless insulin delivery technology for people living with diabetes. The launch also introduces Omnipod Discover, a web-based platform designed to simplify diabetes data analysis for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
Automated Insulin Delivery Designed to Simplify Diabetes Management
Omnipod 5 is a tubeless automated insulin delivery system that continuously adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data to help improve blood glucose control. The wearable, waterproof Pod is designed to increase time spent within target glucose ranges while reducing HbA1c levels and minimizing the burden of multiple daily insulin injections. In Spain, the system is approved for individuals aged two years and older with type 1 diabetes and is compatible with both the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus and Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitoring systems, providing users with flexible sensor options for automated insulin management.
Omnipod Discover Enhances Diabetes Data and Clinical Decision-Making
Alongside Omnipod 5, Insulet has introduced Omnipod Discover, its proprietary retrospective data analytics platform that converts diabetes management data into clear, actionable insights. Accessible through a web-based interface, the platform enables users, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to review glucose trends, therapy performance, and treatment reports to support more personalized diabetes care. Following its initial rollout in several Middle Eastern countries earlier this year, Spain becomes the latest market to receive the digital platform as Insulet continues expanding its connected diabetes ecosystem globally.
Spain Expansion Supports Insulet’s Global Growth Strategy
Spain is home to more than 4.6 million adults living with diabetes, including approximately 189,000 people with type 1 diabetes, creating a substantial opportunity for advanced insulin delivery technologies. Insulet stated that it will continue working with Spanish health authorities and regional healthcare systems to expand access to Omnipod 5 and Omnipod Discover through appropriate regulatory and reimbursement pathways. The latest commercial launch reflects the company’s broader strategy to expand access to innovative diabetes technologies worldwide while delivering more convenient, automated, and personalized insulin therapy solutions for people living with diabetes.
