Galvanize Therapeutics, Inc. has announced new peer-reviewed evidence suggesting that its Aliya® pulsed electric field (PEF) energy may have immune-activating effects beyond its local tissue ablation function. The company reported findings from publications in Clinical Cancer Research and Nature Cancer, adding to the growing scientific investigation of how PEF ablation may influence the tumor immune environment. The latest clinical evidence comes from patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where researchers observed changes associated with immune organization following Aliya PEF treatment.
Clinical Data Show Changes in Tumor Immune Environment
The newly published clinical research evaluated the potential immune effects of Aliya PEF ablation in patients with early-stage NSCLC. Researchers reported evidence of increased immune activity within treated tumors and changes in blood-based biomarkers. A notable finding involved tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS), specialized immune structures that can help organize immune responses within tumors. According to the company’s announcement, 47% of tumors treated with Aliya PEF developed mature TLS with germinal centers, compared with 24% of non-ablated tumors. The reported difference suggests that Aliya PEF treatment may influence the tumor microenvironment beyond directly destroying targeted tissue. Mature TLS with germinal centers are associated with more organized immune activity, providing researchers with an important area for further investigation. The findings were described as the first clinical demonstration of an ablation technology inducing TLS with germinal centers in human tumors. However, the ability of Aliya PEF to induce an immune response that produces patient benefit has not been established.The research builds on previous preclinical work and early clinical observations indicating that PEF treatment may stimulate immune activity outside the immediate ablation zone. Galvanize said earlier studies have reported potential immune effects and responses outside treated areas, although these observations remain part of an evolving evidence base.
Nature Cancer Publication Adds Scientific Context
The clinical findings are further supported by an independent publication in Nature Cancer, co-authored by Tullia C. Bruno, Ph.D., which examines the emerging role of TLS in cancer immunotherapy. The publication identifies TLS as an area of interest for both cancer biomarkers and therapeutic strategies and discusses approaches that may promote the development of mature TLS in human tumors. According to Galvanize, Aliya PEF is among a limited number of approaches discussed in this context and is described as the only medical device among them. The company believes these findings could help advance understanding of the biological effects that occur following PEF ablation and potentially inform future research combining local tumor treatment with immune-based strategies. Aliya PEF uses high-voltage, short-duration electrical energy to induce non-thermal regulated cell death during surgical ablation of soft tissue. Preclinical and early clinical evidence suggests that treatment may promote antigen release, which could contribute to immune activation. Nevertheless, Galvanize emphasizes that the effectiveness of the Aliya System for generating an immune response that leads to clinical patient benefit remains unestablished.
Galvanize Continues Development of Aliya PEF Platform
The latest publications represent another step in Galvanize Therapeutics’ efforts to investigate the biological potential of its Aliya PEF platform across oncology and chronic lung disease. The company recently received FDA clearance for the next-generation Aliya EX Generator, which is designed to deliver PEF energy during soft-tissue ablation. Galvanize planned to showcase the Aliya EX Generator at the 9th Annual Conference of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) in Denver, Colorado, from August 20–22, 2026. The company said the event provides an opportunity to present emerging data and demonstrate the technology to clinicians. The Aliya PEF System is 510(k) cleared in the United States for surgical ablation of soft tissue. The company states that the system is not currently commercially available in other geographies and does not promote off-label use. The new findings remain exploratory and require further research to determine whether the observed immune effects can translate into meaningful clinical benefits for patients.
