July 10, 2025 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved BRAVECTO® QUANTUM (fluralaner for extended-release injectable suspension), a once-yearly injectable parasiticide from Merck Animal Health (known as MSD Animal Health outside the U.S. and Canada). The product offers dogs an unprecedented 12 months of continuous flea and tick protection, setting a new benchmark in companion animal care.

BRAVECTO QUANTUM will be available at veterinary clinics and hospitals across the U.S. starting August 2025. The product has already received approvals in Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union, and is now authorized in more than 50 countries worldwide.

New Standard in Parasiticide Innovation 

“This approval reflects our commitment to innovation in long-acting parasiticides,” said Christine Royal, DVM, Vice President, Companion Animal and Equine Business Unit, Merck Animal Health. “Veterinarians and pet owners now have a safe, convenient, and effective option for year-round protection in a single injection.”

BRAVECTO QUANTUM:

  1. Indications – Kills adult fleas and prevents infestations (Ctenocephalides felis). Controls tick infestations including Ixodes scapularis (black-legged tick), Dermacentor variabilis (American dog tick), and Rhipicephalus sanguineus (brown dog tick) for 12 months. Provides protection against Amblyomma americanum (lone star tick) for 8 months.
  2. Eligibility – Approved for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older.
  3. Innovation – Utilizes a patented extended-release formulation of fluralaner to maintain effective levels for up to one year.

While flea and tick activity peaks in spring and summer, these parasites can remain active year-round, creating ongoing risks of disease transmission and allergic dermatitis in dogs. “With BRAVECTO QUANTUM, a single injection provides continuous, year-long protection, improving compliance and simplifying preventive care,” said Frank Guerino, Ph.D., Associate VP of Global Pharmaceutical Development, Merck Animal Health.
