Curium announced the completion of its acquisition of Abscint SA, a Belgian clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company focused on innovative diagnostic imaging agents for oncology. The transaction gives Curium global rights to develop, manufacture and commercialize ABS-011, an investigational gallium-68-labeled PET radiodiagnostic tracer targeting human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). The acquisition strengthens Curium’s radiodiagnostic capabilities and expands its oncology pipeline, particularly in cancers where HER2 plays an important biological role, including breast and gastric cancers. ABS-011 is currently being evaluated in the Phase 2b HERMIA clinical trial in Belgium, and Curium plans to apply its radiopharmaceutical development, manufacturing and commercialization expertise to advance the program.
Curium Adds Phase 2b HER2 PET Imaging Program
The acquisition adds ABS-011 to Curium’s oncology radiodiagnostic portfolio, providing the company with an investigational imaging agent designed to visualize HER2 expression throughout the body. HER2 is a clinically important target associated with several cancer types, and its expression can vary between different tumor lesions within the same patient. ABS-011 uses a radiolabeled single-domain antibody designed to bind rapidly to HER2 while allowing unbound tracer to clear quickly from the bloodstream. This mechanism is intended to enable same-day whole-body PET imaging, potentially allowing clinicians and researchers to assess HER2 expression across multiple lesions rather than relying exclusively on a biopsy from a single tumor site. The acquisition therefore expands Curium’s presence in oncology molecular imaging and strengthens its portfolio of radiodiagnostic technologies.
ABS-011 Designed to Assess HER2 Across Multiple Tumors
ABS-011 is being investigated as a potential tool for providing a more comprehensive assessment of HER2 status in patients with cancer. Traditional tissue biopsy can provide important molecular information but generally evaluates a specific lesion and may not fully capture biological differences between tumors throughout the body. By enabling quantitative PET imaging of HER2 expression, ABS-011 could potentially help identify variations in HER2 levels across multiple lesions and support more informed patient characterization. The investigational tracer is currently being evaluated in the multicenter Phase 2b HERMIA trial, registered as NCT06369831, in Belgium. The program is particularly relevant to cancers such as breast and gastric cancer, where HER2 expression can influence therapeutic decision-making. However, ABS-011 remains investigational, and its safety and efficacy have not been established by regulatory authorities.
Curium Strengthens Radiopharmaceutical Oncology Strategy
The acquisition allows Curium to combine its global radiopharmaceutical development, manufacturing and commercialization infrastructure with Abscint’s expertise in HER2-focused molecular imaging. Curium said the transaction reinforces its commitment to advancing innovative radiodiagnostic technologies that could support precision oncology and improve patient characterization. The company will assume responsibility for the continued development of ABS-011 and intends to leverage its scale and nuclear medicine expertise to advance the program toward potential regulatory milestones. For Abscint, the acquisition provides ABS-011 with access to a larger radiopharmaceutical platform and established development capabilities. The transaction also highlights the growing role of PET imaging and radiopharmaceutical diagnostics in oncology, where whole-body molecular imaging may help characterize tumor biology and support increasingly personalized approaches to cancer treatment.
