CAMBRIDGE, UK, 22 May 2026
AstraZeneca announced a major scientific showcase at the upcoming ASCO Annual Meeting 2026, highlighting new Phase III oncology data, breakthrough breast cancer therapies, and a potential first-in-class rare disease treatment. The company will present more than 85 abstracts across its oncology and rare disease portfolio during the meeting scheduled from 29 May to 2 June 2026 in Chicago. The presentations reinforce AstraZeneca’s aggressive strategy to expand immunotherapy, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and precision medicines into earlier stages of disease while advancing next-generation modalities including engineered T-cell therapies and epigenetic drugs.
Phase III Cancer Trials Drive ASCO Spotlight
One of the most anticipated presentations is the EMERALD-3 Phase III trial, evaluating Imfinzi (durvalumab) combined with Imjudo (tremelimumab), with or without lenvatinib and transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE), in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma eligible for embolisation. The late-breaking study is expected to strengthen AstraZeneca’s expanding liver cancer franchise and demonstrate the value of moving immunotherapy combinations into earlier-stage disease settings. In metastatic breast cancer, AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo will present major updates from the DESTINY-Breast09, TROPION-Breast02, and SERENA-6 Phase III trials. These studies span all major breast cancer subtypes including HER2-positive, HR-positive/HER2-negative, and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), reinforcing the company’s ambition to dominate the next generation of breast cancer treatment standards.
The SERENA-6 data will showcase final progression-free survival 2 (PFS2) outcomes for camizestrant in combination with CDK4/6 inhibitors in patients with emergent ESR1 mutations detected through circulating tumor DNA. Meanwhile, TROPION-Breast02 will provide additional efficacy data for Datroway (datopotamab deruxtecan) in metastatic TNBC patients who are not eligible for PD-1 or PD-L1 immunotherapy. Updated analyses from DESTINY-Breast09 will further evaluate long-term outcomes with Enhertu plus pertuzumab in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, strengthening evidence around treatment duration and response quality.
Rare Disease and Next-Generation Oncology Assets Gain Attention
A major rare disease highlight will come from the CARES Phase III programme evaluating anselamimab, an investigational anti-fibril therapy from Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, in newly diagnosed patients with AL amyloidosis. The study focuses on patients with kappa light chain disease and is expected to demonstrate clinically meaningful improvements in survival and cardiovascular outcomes. AstraZeneca stated that anselamimab’s mechanism is designed to directly target and remove amyloid deposits from affected organs, potentially making it the first approved therapy of its kind in this indication.
The company will also unveil early-stage pipeline advances including NT-175 engineered T-cell receptor therapy for TP53 R175H-mutated solid tumors and AZD3470, a first-in-class PRMT5 inhibitor being investigated in relapsed or refractory Hodgkin lymphoma. Additional attention will focus on Puxi-Sam (AZD8205), AstraZeneca’s B7-H4-directed ADC, which recently received FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation for ovarian and endometrial cancers. Updated BLUESTAR trial data will provide deeper insights into efficacy and safety in heavily pretreated patients.
AstraZeneca Expands Oncology Leadership at ASCO 2026
According to AstraZeneca executives, the ASCO presentations highlight the company’s growing momentum in oncology and rare diseases. The company noted that it secured approvals across more than a dozen cancer indications during the last six months alone, reflecting the commercial and clinical strength of its expanding portfolio. Beyond breast and liver cancer, additional studies at ASCO 2026 will include data in lung cancer, bladder cancer, gastric cancer, biliary tract cancer, head and neck cancer, and neurofibromatosis type 1 plexiform neurofibromas. AstraZeneca’s broad presence at the conference further positions the company as one of the most influential players in the global oncology market, with a strategy centered on precision medicine, immuno-oncology, cell therapy, and antibody-drug conjugates.
