ESPOO, Finland, June 30, 2026
Orion Pharma has announced a strategic agreement with Shilpa Biologicals Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shilpa Medicare Limited, to commercialize an intravenous (IV) nivolumab biosimilar across the European market. The partnership marks a significant step in expanding access to affordable oncology biologics while strengthening Orion’s presence in the hospital pharmaceutical segment across Continental Europe. Under the agreement, Orion will receive exclusive rights to distribute, market, and sell Shilpa’s investigational nivolumab biosimilar throughout Europe, while Shilpa will remain responsible for manufacturing and supplying the product. The collaboration also includes development and regulatory milestone payments to Shilpa, reinforcing the long-term strategic relationship between the two companies. As demand for high-quality biosimilars continues to grow across Europe, the partnership is expected to support broader patient access to innovative cancer therapies while advancing competition in the oncology biologics market.
Strategic Partnership Expands Access to Oncology Biosimilars
The agreement focuses on the commercialization of Shilpa’s intravenous nivolumab biosimilar, which is currently under development. Nivolumab is a widely used immune checkpoint inhibitor that targets the PD-1 pathway, enabling the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. It has become an important treatment option for multiple cancers, including melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, head and neck cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, and several other solid tumors.
Through this collaboration, Orion will leverage its established commercial infrastructure and hospital market expertise to introduce the biosimilar across Europe following regulatory approvals. Shilpa, meanwhile, will utilize its biologics development and manufacturing capabilities to ensure a reliable supply of the product. The collaboration highlights the growing role of biosimilars in improving healthcare sustainability by providing cost-effective alternatives to reference biologic medicines while maintaining comparable quality, safety, and efficacy.
Supporting Affordable Cancer Treatment Across Europe
The collaboration reflects both companies’ commitment to improving patient access to advanced oncology treatments through biosimilar innovation. Orion stated that the agreement supports its long-term strategy to strengthen its Generics and Consumer Health business while expanding operations in the European hospital segment. Company executives emphasized that increasing access to affordable, high-quality medicines remains a central objective as healthcare systems continue to face rising demand for biologic therapies.
Shilpa Biologicals also described the agreement as a major milestone in extending its international presence within immuno-oncology, demonstrating confidence in its scientific expertise and large-scale biologics manufacturing capabilities. By combining Orion’s commercial leadership in Europe with Shilpa’s biologics development platform, the partnership aims to accelerate the availability of next-generation biosimilars that can reduce treatment costs while maintaining high clinical standards for patients with cancer.
Strengthening Europe’s Biosimilar and Oncology Landscape
The latest agreement further strengthens the longstanding strategic relationship between Orion Pharma and Shilpa Medicare, expanding their collaboration into one of the fastest-growing therapeutic areas in modern medicine. As biosimilars continue to play an increasingly important role in healthcare systems worldwide, partnerships that combine innovative development with strong commercialization capabilities are becoming essential for expanding treatment availability. The planned launch of the nivolumab biosimilar is expected to enhance competition within the European oncology market while supporting healthcare providers in delivering sustainable cancer care.
For Orion, the agreement reinforces its ambition to become a leading supplier of hospital-based specialty medicines, while for Shilpa it represents another step toward becoming a globally recognized developer of complex biologics. The collaboration demonstrates how strategic pharmaceutical partnerships can accelerate biosimilar adoption, improve healthcare affordability, and expand patient access to life-saving immuno-oncology therapies across Europe.
