DUBLIN, Ireland and VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 17, 2026
Jazz Pharmaceuticals and AbCellera have announced a major strategic collaboration to discover and develop next-generation T-cell engaging (TCE) multispecific antibodies designed to target gastrointestinal (GI) cancers and other difficult-to-treat solid tumors. The partnership combines Jazz’s oncology development expertise with AbCellera’s advanced antibody discovery and engineering platform to accelerate the development of innovative immunotherapies capable of improving outcomes for cancer patients. Under the agreement, AbCellera will receive $56 million in upfront payments for the first two research programs, with the potential to earn up to $792 million per program through option fees, development milestones, regulatory achievements, and commercial sales targets. The collaboration highlights the increasing importance of multispecific antibody technologies and immune cell engagement strategies in modern oncology research, where next-generation biologics are being developed to overcome the limitations of conventional cancer treatments and provide more precise therapeutic approaches for patients with advanced malignancies.
Collaboration Expands Innovation in T-Cell Engaging Therapies
The agreement focuses on the discovery and optimization of T-cell engaging multispecific antibodies, an emerging class of immunotherapies designed to direct the body’s immune system toward cancer cells with enhanced precision. T-cell engagers work by bringing immune cells into close proximity with tumor cells, stimulating targeted immune responses capable of eliminating malignant tissue. Through this collaboration, AbCellera will utilize its proprietary discovery engine, multispecific antibody engineering technologies, novel CD3-binding antibody panels, and advanced functional screening platforms to generate optimized development candidates.
These technologies are intended to improve therapeutic potency, tumor selectivity, and safety while addressing challenges commonly associated with solid tumor treatment. The companies believe that combining multiple targeting mechanisms into a single biologic could provide significant advantages over traditional monoclonal antibodies and existing immunotherapy approaches.
Multispecific Antibodies Target GI Cancers and Solid Tumors
A primary focus of the partnership is the development of novel treatments for gastrointestinal cancers and other solid tumors, areas where significant unmet medical need remains despite recent advances in oncology. Many patients with advanced GI malignancies continue to experience poor clinical outcomes, creating strong demand for innovative therapeutic approaches capable of improving response rates and long-term survival. AbCellera’s T-cell engager platform provides integrated capabilities spanning antibody discovery, protein engineering, preclinical development, and clinical manufacturing.
The platform is specifically designed to support the creation of highly sophisticated multispecific molecules capable of engaging immune cells while simultaneously recognizing tumor-associated targets. Researchers believe this approach may improve treatment specificity and therapeutic effectiveness, particularly in cancers that have historically been resistant to conventional immune-based therapies.
Strategic Partnership Strengthens Oncology Development Pipeline
Under the terms of the agreement, AbCellera will initially conduct discovery and early-stage research activities for two oncology programs, with a commitment to initiate a third discovery program within the next year. Jazz Pharmaceuticals will retain exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize any resulting therapeutic candidates upon exercising its development options. In addition to upfront funding, the agreement includes substantial milestone opportunities and tiered royalty payments tied to future commercial success. The collaboration further strengthens Jazz’s oncology strategy while expanding AbCellera’s portfolio of high-value pharmaceutical partnerships.
Industry observers view the agreement as a significant endorsement of AbCellera’s antibody discovery platform and a reflection of growing investment in advanced biologics capable of delivering targeted immune activation. As cancer research increasingly shifts toward precision immunotherapy and engineered biologics, partnerships such as this are expected to play an important role in bringing next-generation treatments to patients with difficult-to-treat cancers worldwide.
