Alvotech has announced the resubmission of U.S. Biologics License Applications (BLAs) for two important biosimilar candidates, AVT05, a proposed biosimilar to Simponi® and Simponi Aria® (golimumab), and AVT06, a proposed biosimilar to Eylea® (aflibercept). The regulatory milestone marks a significant step forward in Alvotech’s strategy to expand patient access to affordable biologic medicines while strengthening its position as a leading global biosimilar developer. The resubmissions follow extensive work with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address manufacturing and quality-related observations and position both products for continued regulatory review. Regulatory Progress Strengthens Biosimilar Pipeline
The resubmitted BLAs come after Alvotech responded to the FDA’s Post-Application Action Letter (PAAL) regarding its Reykjavik manufacturing facility and submitted responses to observations identified during a routine cGMP surveillance inspection completed in May 2026. The company has also implemented ongoing enhancements to its manufacturing operations and quality management systems to further strengthen compliance and operational performance. According to Alvotech, the FDA is expected to conduct a standard six-month review of the resubmitted applications under established regulatory timelines.

The biosimilar has already secured approvals in several international markets, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Japan, demonstrating regulatory confidence in its comparability to the reference product. Meanwhile, AVT06 is a proposed biosimilar to Eylea® (aflibercept), one of the most widely prescribed ophthalmology biologics used for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion.
AVT06 has also received approvals across multiple global markets, including Europe, the UK, Japan, and Canada.
