Atrium Therapeutics, Inc. announced that it has earned a $15 million milestone payment from Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) under their global licensing and research collaboration focused on developing RNA-based therapies for cardiovascular diseases. The payment was triggered by the successful delivery of a lead compound targeting an undisclosed cardiology indication. The milestone marks continued progress in the collaboration and highlights Atrium’s efforts to develop targeted RNA therapeutics designed to address the underlying drivers of serious heart diseases.
Atrium Advances RNA Therapeutics for Heart Disease
Atrium Therapeutics is focused on developing targeted RNA medicines for cardiovascular diseases, with an emphasis on delivering therapeutic molecules directly to the heart. The company’s proprietary delivery approach combines the tissue selectivity of monoclonal antibodies and other targeted delivery ligands with the precision of oligonucleotide therapeutics, including small interfering RNA (siRNA). The company recently received FDA clearance for the Investigational New Drug application for ATR 1072, its first precision cardiology program targeting PRKAG2 syndrome, a rare genetic cardiac disease. ATR 1072 is entering clinical development through the Corventis Phase 1/2 clinical trial, representing an important transition for Atrium from research into human clinical testing. Atrium’s pipeline also includes ATR 1086, which is being developed for phospholamban (PLN) cardiomyopathy, along with two undisclosed research programs targeting rare cardiomyopathies. The company’s platform was originally designed at Avidity Biosciences and is intended to address challenges associated with delivering RNA therapeutics to specific tissues. By combining targeted delivery technologies with RNA-based mechanisms, Atrium aims to selectively interfere with disease-driving molecular pathways while limiting nonspecific tissue exposure.
