AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, May 8, 2026
Argenx SE announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a major label expansion for VYVGART® (efgartigimod alfa-fcab) and VYVGART Hytrulo®, significantly broadening access for adult patients living with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) across all antibody subtypes. With the new approval, VYVGART and VYVGART Hytrulo become the first and only therapies approved for all adult gMG serotypes, including anti-AChR-Ab positive, anti-MuSK-Ab positive, anti-LRP4-Ab positive, and triple seronegative patients. The decision marks a major advancement in the treatment landscape for gMG, particularly for patients historically excluded from targeted clinical studies due to the absence of detectable anti-acetylcholine receptor antibodies. The approval is supported by positive data from the Phase 3 ADAPT SERON study, which demonstrated rapid, statistically significant, and sustained improvements in muscle weakness symptoms across multiple patient populations, reinforcing argenx’s growing leadership position within the autoimmune neurology market.
ADAPT SERON Study Demonstrates Significant Clinical Benefit Across All gMG Serotypes
The FDA approval was based on results from the global Phase 3 ADAPT SERON trial, the largest clinical study conducted specifically in generalized myasthenia gravis patients without detectable anti-AChR antibodies. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled 119 adult patients across North America, Europe, China, and the Middle East, including patients who were anti-MuSK-Ab positive, anti-LRP4-Ab positive, and triple seronegative. According to argenx, patients treated with VYVGART experienced rapid and clinically meaningful improvements in critical disease symptoms involving speech, swallowing, mobility, muscle strength, breathing, and vision. The study achieved its primary endpoint, with statistically significant improvement in Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living (MG-ADL) scores at week four compared to placebo (p=0.0068). Across the overall patient population, VYVGART treatment produced a clinically meaningful 3.35-point improvement in MG-ADL total score, while additional improvements were observed in Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis (QMG) scores throughout subsequent treatment cycles.
Importantly, VYVGART demonstrated a favorable safety and tolerability profile consistent with previously established clinical data in anti-AChR antibody positive patients. Investigators reported that the therapy was well tolerated across all serotypes, strengthening confidence in the broader applicability of FcRn-targeted therapies within autoimmune neurology. Clinical experts noted that approximately 20% of gMG patients lack detectable AChR antibodies, often creating diagnostic and treatment challenges while leaving many patients underserved in traditional clinical development programs. The expanded indication now allows healthcare providers to prescribe VYVGART based on clinical diagnosis regardless of antibody status, simplifying treatment decisions and broadening access to targeted therapy.
FDA Approval Expands argenx Leadership in Autoimmune Neurology
Generalized myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease caused by pathogenic immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies that disrupt communication between nerves and muscles at the neuromuscular junction. The condition leads to debilitating muscle weakness and fatigue affecting essential daily functions such as speaking, swallowing, breathing, and movement. Although many patients are anti-AChR antibody positive, a substantial subset of patients carry other antibody profiles or remain triple seronegative, historically limiting access to targeted therapies specifically studied in those populations.
VYVGART is a first-in-class FcRn blocker designed to reduce circulating pathogenic IgG autoantibodies by targeting the neonatal Fc receptor. The therapy has rapidly become one of the leading targeted treatments in autoimmune neurology and continues expanding across additional autoimmune indications globally. argenx also recently reported positive topline results from the ADAPT OCULUS study evaluating VYVGART Hytrulo in ocular myasthenia gravis and continues development efforts in pediatric gMG populations through the ADAPT Jr study.
According to argenx Chief Medical Officer Luc Truyen, M.D., Ph.D., the approval represents an important milestone ensuring that all adult gMG patients, regardless of antibody subtype, can potentially benefit from VYVGART’s rapid onset, sustained disease control, and established safety profile. Patient advocacy organizations also welcomed the decision, emphasizing that many seronegative patients have historically faced greater disease burden and limited treatment inclusion.
Broader Market Opportunity Strengthens VYVGART Commercial Position
The expanded FDA label significantly strengthens argenx’s competitive position in the growing autoimmune neurology sector, where demand continues rising for targeted biologic therapies capable of addressing complex immune-mediated diseases. Analysts expect the broader indication to increase physician adoption while expanding the addressable patient population for both intravenous VYVGART and subcutaneous VYVGART Hytrulo formulations. VYVGART Hytrulo additionally offers flexible administration options, including self-injection using a prefilled syringe, further supporting patient convenience and long-term disease management.
argenx stated that its patient support initiative, My VYVGART Path, will continue assisting patients and healthcare providers with treatment access, reimbursement navigation, benefits verification, and financial assistance programs. As FcRn-targeted therapies continue reshaping the treatment landscape for autoimmune diseases, argenx is positioning VYVGART as a foundational therapy platform across multiple neurology and immunology indications globally.
