Alamar Biosciences, Inc. announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative (ADDI) and Gates Ventures, significantly increasing the scale of a global effort to advance understanding of neurodegenerative diseases through large-scale proteomics. Under the expanded collaboration, Alamar will profile an additional 86,000 plasma samples using its NULISAseq™ Neuro 220 panel, building upon a previously announced initiative that analyzed more than 55,000 samples. Approximately 21,000 of the newly added samples are part of a national-scale proteomics effort launched in collaboration with leading research universities. When completed in 2027, the combined dataset is expected to exceed 140,000 samples, making it one of the largest neurodegenerative disease proteomics studies ever conducted. The initiative is designed to move research beyond single biomarkers toward a more comprehensive understanding of disease heterogeneity, progression patterns and biological subtypes.
Multiplex Protein Profiling Expands Precision Medicine Research
Alamar Biosciences said the expanded project leverages the capabilities of its NULISAseq Neuro 220 panel, which measures approximately 220 neurological biomarker targets from small volumes of plasma or cerebrospinal fluid. The panel enables researchers to simultaneously evaluate multiple biological pathways involved in neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, synaptic dysfunction and vascular pathology. By generating large-scale multiplex protein datasets, researchers can apply artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to identify novel disease mechanisms, protein interactions and predictive signatures associated with disease progression. The company believes that analyzing multiple biomarkers simultaneously may help scientists move beyond simply detecting disease toward characterizing distinct biological subtypes and understanding how neurological conditions evolve over time. This approach aligns with broader efforts to develop precision medicine strategies for complex neurodegenerative disorders, where patients often display significant variability in disease presentation and progression.
Neuro 220 Panel Includes Emerging Alzheimer’s Biomarkers
A key feature of the Neuro 220 panel is the inclusion of eMTBR-Tau, an emerging blood-based biomarker designed to measure tau tangle burden, one of the hallmark pathological features of Alzheimer’s disease. The biomarker complements established indicators such as p-Tau217, enabling simultaneous assessment of both major Alzheimer’s disease pathologies from blood samples. According to Alamar, the ability to evaluate multiple biomarkers in a single assay may provide deeper insight into disease mechanisms and patient variability. The company believes that large-scale application of the panel across diverse patient populations could help researchers identify previously unrecognized disease trajectories and biological subgroups. Such findings could potentially contribute to improved patient stratification, earlier diagnosis and more targeted therapeutic development, although additional research will be required to validate these applications in clinical settings.
Global Dataset Expected to Exceed 140,000 Samples
The expanded collaboration is expected to generate one of the most comprehensive proteomic datasets in neurodegenerative disease research. More than 140,000 samples from multiple geographies and patient cohorts will be integrated with detailed clinical information and longitudinal outcome data. The resulting resource will be made available to the global scientific community through the secure data-sharing infrastructure established by the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative and utilized by the Global Neurodegeneration Proteomics Consortium (GNPC). By combining large-scale proteomics with extensive clinical phenotyping, the initiative aims to create a resource capable of supporting future discoveries related to Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. The expansion of the partnership highlights growing interest in high-resolution proteomic technologies and reinforces Alamar Biosciences’ role in advancing precision biomarker research for neurological diseases.
