AIM ImmunoTech Inc. (NYSE American: AIM), an immuno-pharmaceutical company developing Ampligen® (rintatolimod), announced that it has secured patent protection in Europe and the United Kingdom covering the use of Ampligen for the treatment of Long COVID. The protection is expected to extend through June 2041, strengthening the company’s global intellectual property position around its lead therapeutic. The European patent milestone follows the close of the nine-month opposition period under Article 99(1) of the European Patent Convention on August 25, 2026, with no opposition filed. AIM said the development further expands its strategy of building a broad and durable patent estate around Ampligen, its proprietary double-stranded RNA-based immunomodulator and highly selective TLR3 agonist.
Ampligen Patent Covers Major European Markets and U.K.
The newly established protection covers 18 European countries and the United Kingdom, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and the U.K. The granted claims cover therapeutic double-stranded ribonucleic acid (tdsRNA) for use in treating patients with Long COVID, including specified dosing regimens and delivery approaches. The covered administration methods include intranasal, intravenous and inhalation delivery, with Ampligen included within the tdsRNA coverage. The geographic expansion provides AIM with intellectual property protection across multiple major European markets and strengthens the potential long-term commercial positioning of Ampligen for this therapeutic opportunity.

The European and U.K. patent milestone follows a newly issued U.S. patent covering the use of Ampligen in combination with pembrolizumab for cancer treatment.
