Advita Ortho has announced the first clinical use of Equinoxe® Reverse Shoulder System humeral liners manufactured with Activit-E® polyethylene, marking an important advancement in shoulder replacement technology. The inaugural procedures were performed by Dr. Thomas Wright of the University of Florida, introducing the company’s vitamin E-enhanced highly crosslinked polyethylene (HXLPE) into the Equinoxe® Reverse Shoulder System. With this milestone, Activit-E® polyethylene is now available across Advita Ortho’s shoulder, knee, and ankle implant portfolios, expanding access to an advanced biomaterial designed to improve implant durability, wear resistance, and long-term oxidative stability. The initial launch is taking place in limited quantities across the United States, with broader commercial availability expected during the fourth quarter of 2026.
Activit-E® Polyethylene Designed to Improve Implant Performance
The newly introduced Activit-E® humeral liners are manufactured using highly crosslinked ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) combined with vitamin E, an antioxidant incorporated directly into the material before processing. The manufacturing process includes compression molding, stress-relief annealing, and gamma irradiation, creating a polyethylene material engineered to improve wear resistance while maintaining long-term oxidative stability compared with conventional UHMWPE. According to Advita Ortho, the combination of crosslinking technology and vitamin E is intended to preserve the mechanical performance of the implant while reducing material degradation over time. The new liners are compatible with the Equinoxe® Reverse Shoulder System, including platform stems, small reverse baseplates, and fracture stems, providing surgeons with an expanded range of implant options.

The Activit-E® humeral liners are currently being released through a limited U.S. pilot launch, with wider domestic availability planned for Q4 2026, followed by an international rollout in selected markets.
